Hey guys, I'm a RD applicant to Stern and was just wondering when NYU notifies us of acceptance/rejection.
Also, I have seen on CC that scholarship recipients receive their decision earlier than other people. Any idea on when scholarship recipients may hear from NYU?

Not sure if one poster who reported getting a “full ride” at NYU in one of the recent threads here is a scholarship recipient. Scholarship recipients should be hearing any day (or might have started hearing already?). Last year my son was one of the first to hear on 3/11/10. At least, I was one of the first to report it here that day.

RD recipients without scholarships (but may still get nice aid packages) hear around 4/1.

Really nervous. Flatout rejected by WUSTL and now I’m losing hope… I wish NYU decisions came out earlier than April! I applied to HumEc.

Ah I’m so nervous too… hopefully they come out soon

Scholars notification come out now/soon!
I received notification that I am a Dean’s Scholar for NYU today. Pretty cool =)

^
Wow congratz on the scholarship!!!

Congrats, storyofmylife, You are the first scholarship recipient to report here this year!

Just like I said before, scholarship notices start coming out around 3/11. That was the date sonny was notified last year. That is great. Let us hear from some more scholarship recipients!

Also, story, you have to share some of your stats and such because I am sure readers here want to know what are the strengths in the application of a Dean’s Scholar.

I know I was bombarded by requests for info, especially being the first to report on behalf of sonny. :)

Thanks everyone =)
I’ll post my more important stats since I never wrote one before… hope this helps!

False information!
To all whom it may concern,

I am a rising senior at New York University, and a recipient of the D.E.A.N. Scholarship. I must clear up this misconception!

Unlike other scholarship programs at NYU, D.E.A.N. Scholars do NOT have to maintain a certain GPA, nor are they required to stay in the Scholars Program. When you arrive at NYU, you will find that a vast number of scholars of many different name are all invited to participate in the Presidential Scholars program in CAS. Some scholarships do have a GPA requirement (such as the MLK scholarship, which is awarded for community service), but D.E.A.N.S. does not. However, there is a requirement of a 3.65 gpa to stay in the Scholars Program.

If you do not maintain this GPA as D.E.A.N.S. and are removed from the scholars program, you will NOT LOSE YOUR SCHOLARSHIP!!! D.E.A.N. Scholarships are awarded to the top 1-3% of the incoming class, and they are awarded to those who the admissions office believes will make a valuable contribution to the NYU community, based on their diversity of experiences and excellence in academics. They wouldn’t take your money away!

If anyone has questions regarding anything, they should always feel free to call the Admissions Department: (212) 998-4500. Answering the phones are student Ambassadors, many of whom are scholars themselves, and they will be able to give you the info you need."

Though I have to add that MLK Scholars are not just admitted for community service. They also have to have an all around excellent academic record, in addition to outstanding community service and social action.

congrats story!!! I’m so happy for you!

are notifications by mail or online?

I got an email today saying I’m in NYU Gallatin, and I’m an MLK Scholar!

I got the email today too!
MLK Scholar in Stern

Wow, nz and qwert,

CONGRATULATIONS! You will like the MLK program and its perks. My son got much better advisement with a MK program advisor after the underwhelming generic advisement he got during the summer registration/ orientation session. He went to New Orleans for part of the winter break and never worked so hard physically but it is all part of his personal/ educational growth and life journey.

Now he is applying for a summer internship (will receive a $3000? stipend by the MLK program). Good thing, because Freshmen/ Sophomore students have a tough time competing for internships.

Wow, very exciting. :)

I also received the Dean’s Scholar recipient (full tuition) and was asked to participate in a three-day session at NYU on the first to third of April.

Stats:

Caucasian, Low-Income (just over 40k), New Jersey

SAT: Didn’t take.
SAT Subject Tests: 730 History, 730 Math II, 670 Chemistry
ACT: Highest across test dates: 34 Math, 34 English, 31 Reading, 29 Science, 31 Composite
Rank: 1/435 (initial transcript); 2/455 (mid-year report)

Extracurriculars: Renaissance Program (President), Site Council member (leadership), President’s Club member (leadership), JV Tennis, NHS, Health Careers Club, World Language Club, Irish Culture Club

Community Service: Junior Volunteer at local hospital (116 hours), middle school Renaissance Alumni Volunteer (120 hours), other various activities (25 hours)

Honors/Awards: Board of Education Proclamations (11th Grade = Reformation of and dedication to the Renaissance Program; 12th Grade = Perfect score on the Mathematics portion of the New Jersey High School Proficiency Assessment); NJ Governor’s School Nomination, NJ Boys State Nomination and Participant, AP Scholar Award, other school awards.

Since my Subject Test scores were so low, I’m guessing that my relatively unique essays balanced that out.

I do have a question though… Would the scholarship grant as a Dean’s Scholar exclude me from receiving any need-based grants that I could use for room/board?

Congratulations, Varouet,

Wow, you have one of the best awards NYU gives out. Full tuition has been reported but a rarity since most of the Scholarships max out at $25,000 to 30,000 (at least in previous years).

Since your family income is very low, you would still be considered for extra aid based on need. However, I am not sure if NYU will decide to be generous with you and give you more free money for room and board or just offer you loans to cover the rest. It is a toss-up between how your stellar standing will “move” the NYU financial aid people vs. NYU’s policy of not being overly generous with grants (NYU does not guarantee covering all need with grants, may be loans), especially given how generous your package is already.

At this point, consider yourself as having won the lottery for getting the complete tuition ride! Again, Congrats! :)

By the way, I do not mean to minimize your hard work and talent in getting the Dean’s Scholarship. I just mean the money you received is really one of the TOP, TOP awards reported here in NYU CC.

Will they be sending acceptances during spring break or do we have to wait til after?

Last year, some (but not all) accepted students received an email on March 19th telling them to save the date for Accepted Students Day. The subject line was “Book your travel plans to NYC for April.” This was not the acceptance notification, but many kids called the school and found out that if they got this, yes, they were in.

Acceptance came on March 25th, but again, I don’t think all students were notified on the same day, from what I remember seeing on CC.

The first notification comes from NYU, not from the particular school within the university.
