notification date

I know I am obsessing. that said...
Website says notification of RD will be April 1st... which is a SUNDAY. Notifications are NOT made on the portal so I assume they come by mail. Has anyone called to see if they are expected before or after 4/1?
Anyone from past years with notification info?

I’m sure they will go out prior to that weekend so a majority of students will receive their decisions by that Saturday. That said, snail mail has that nickname for a reason so some students might be gripping into the following week.

I’d prefer online notification though… I don’t live in the US and snail mail here is pretty unreliable :(

On the basis of last year’s threads I understand that acceptance letters are sent to international candidates by commercial courier. You may want to e-mail the Office of Admissions to ask. Please let everyone know the result.

Best of luck!

Wait, we don’t get notified online or by email? It will take forever for me to receive the decisions in the mail :frowning: When could I email them then?

Last year, the domestically mailed letters left the Admissions Office on March 23rd (I don’t know about international). As I recall, the Admissions folks had posted on their blog something to the effect of “They’re coming!” a few days in advance of the actual mailing.

I googled this the other day, and last year a great number of people seemed to get them around March 27th, but then again there were a lot of people who didn’t get them till long after the April 1st deadline. I’m hoping they come sooner rather then later, as colgate is the last school I’m waiting to hear back from.

I just hope they used Fedex or DHL or something reliable for international :)

Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using CC

I read in another thread that they did use fedex last year and the letter came only 45 hours later :)

Cool  oh the joy of getting a package and knowing the decision based on the size of the package…

Aaaah!

Logged into the portal. It says decisions have been made and will be communicated “on or about March 21”. How brilliant!

This might be a bit of a stupid question, but how did you receive your Colgate username/password to log into the portal? I never got an email or letter…

I received the username/pw in an e-mail acknowledgment in mid-Jan. You should ask them if you didn’t receive it.

Are you sure you didn’t get the email? I got one 24th of January with username and password. Wow, March 21? That is the first decision I will get then.

I believe the portal original said that decisions will be announced by mail and not on the portal. So I think the 3/21 date is a (snail)mail thing.

I wonder if this is what everyone’s portal says, since it sounds quite depressing and consolatory:

Colgate’s Office of Admission has appreciated the contact we have had with you through your college search. We understand that you are eager to learn the outcome of your application. Currently, the application review phase for first year admission is now complete. We plan to communicate our admission decisions on or about March 21. Please note we do not give out decisions over the phone. We thank you again for your interest in Colgate and give you our best wishes for your college career.

Yes, that shows for all students applying through regular decision.

Yeah, I’m positive I never got that email. I’ll definitely call Mon. Thanks! Glad I found out about the notification date haha

If it’s any help, my daughter (now a junior at Colgate) heard “around” April 1st by mail. It was the famous “big fat envelope” filled with enthusiasm for her and excited that she wanted to attend Colgate.

In fact, that mailing was one factor that helped her decide among her choices (Middlebury, Colby, Cornell, and others) that a school that cared that personally about her was the school she wanted to attend most.

Since she’s loved it there for three years (and she’s currently studying on a semester abroad program in Paris which isn’t half bad, either), she made the right decision.

If I recall, the system used to be that they mailed acceptances letters out toward the last week of March so they would arrive around April 1st. Not sure if they’ve moved this to an earlier date or not, and not sure if they are notifying by e-mail or online in some form. Those online postings and/or e-mail acceptances have been characterized by some problems, as you may know, when a few colleges accepted the wrong people and sent out the wrong information to the incorrect lists of people and completely embarrassed themselves. I still would prefer an actual paper letter and not trust an online acceptance 100%. Maybe 99%.

That is what I see in my portal.
