Notification date

I applied early action to Goucher College. They reported that they notified BY February 15th and I have yet to recieve my letter. I was wondering, is this normal, or is there something to be worried about? I think I’m just anxious, because, while it’s probably a safety for me as far as getting in goes, I am finding that more and more people from my school have applied there, many of which are probably better than me statwise. That’s my second question. Even if I’m above range for them, would having so many (I’ve found 8 so far, probably 4 or 5 of which would be better candidates ) others from my school applying there really hurt my chances, especially considering I go to a school with 300 kids total for 9th-12th grade? I really hope it’s not that big a factor, but it’s driving me crazy and I want to know their decision. I was expecting it today, so it annoyed me that I didn’t have it yet, heh.

Bump? Anyone?

Corman- Yes, the fact that eight other kids applied does make a huge impact on who they will take from your school. All things being equal (i.e., no URM or athletes) they will take the kids with the best stats first. So you should worry about EA. However, EA is harder than RD, so if your stats are good enough and you don't get in EA you should get in RD. If colleges say "by Feb.15" they mean the 15th or earlier and from my experience, decisions have always been received before the due date. You should give them a call and ask....good luck

"BY Feb. 15th" is their goal - schools have gotten so many EA applicants this year, they aren't all meeting their notification dates. They might have mailed it on the 15th and you will hear this week. I'd wait until next week to call, if you must.

Do you know for certain that they received all your materials? - some schools get behind on notifying you if they are missing something and some schools (but I doubt Goucher, this is more the big state schools) won't tell you at all if something is missing. If there is any reason to think something might be lost in the mail, you need to call now, otherwise wait a week.

Have your counselor call and ask. Many years ago, I applied ED to a college and got no response. They had lost my information, though they had cashed my dad's check. It is possible that something has gone wrong whether it is simply your EA responce letter did not get to you or if other info is missing and needs to be resent, you should know.

Well, I wasn't sure if it all got there when the deadline first passed, so I called in a few days later and they said the application was "good to go," so I don't think that's the problem. Do you think it would be okay to send them an e-mail just in case? Would that just be annoying to them? I'm anxious. There are so many applying there from my school, and it was such a sure thing too...

bump.............

corman, my d applied ea to goucher, too. She has not heard yet, either. BTW, she is in their top 25% of admitted scores, and comes from a school where virtually no one has even heard of goucher-let alone applied. I'd give it til next week to call. They could be mailing things around the 15th, and it might take a few days...Relax a little-if you can.

Heh, thanks...I know, I'm definately making way too much of this, I tend to do that sometimes...

We on the West Coast are also waiting....

Got it today, got in too. It came in a really cool envelope too, kind of like a pizza box, but even cooler. I am VERY easily amused.

congrats!!

Thanks! (Stupid word limit. Is this good enough for ya, punk?!)

Congrats, corman. Still quiet here on the western front. :)

Congrats Corman! Still keeping our fingers crossed in CA!

Yeah, my friend Brian still hasn't heard from them about him out here in Philly, and we're only 3 hours away! So yeah, they're a-comin'. Good luck to you all, and thanks!

D got her acceptance today :)
Corman, could you elaborate a bit more on why you like goucher? D has only seen a video, and it would be nice to get a more individual reaction to the school. Did the kids say social life is a bit dull? I have read this in several places.

mommeleh - are you on the West Coast - we are in CA and still waiting - I am very nervous...S is very unconcerned...

Yes, we are in WA. I don't think you should worry. Really. Decisions were made and sent off. With EA, there is no reason to assume that acceptances would get sent any earlier than rejections. (unlike a rolling decision type of admit, for ex.) Is this a favored school for your son? A few more males there would certainly make goucher a more attractive option to dd. :)
