Is there a site that says what day schools have notified applicants in the past? I don't mean the published web site dates, rather the actual dates of the past. Thanks.

Well, Hoping4Duke,

In the past the admissions decisions have come out around the 11th of this month. I presume you’re asking because you’re also Hoping4Wustl so let me just say that I’d check your Pathway account this Wednesday/Thursday.

Good Luck to you and everyone else.

yes, really hoping for Wed and an admit for this great fit! ![]()
Right back atcha with the good luck.
I am a parent by the way.

Oh, Thanks for the well wishes but I’m already a Student at WashU.
If your child gets in or has any questions feel free to shoot me a PM.

Again, good luck on the last leg of your child’s college search.

Thanks so much. I’ll let you know what happens. Hopefully with many
s!

Masra91, if you don’t mind, would you post your stats? I’m an anxious prospective student and I would like to know what they are looking for!

Thanks!

um it’s been a while but let me say this abouts stats.

I work in admissions at WashU as a student member. The one thing that I hear time and time again, even from the admissions reps that I’m close with who give me straight talk, is that comparing stats are pointless. Every individual is looked at in a holistic way that doesn’t just look at stats. Interviews don’t hurt you if you don’t get one, but they can seriously help you if you do. Stop worrying about Stats - just get good grades, do your best on the Standardized Tests and (perhaps most importantly) write a great essay.

That being said

3.8 GPA uw
34 ACT (35 super score)
Nationally ranked debater, national Mock trial, national quiz bowl.
didn’t take SAT or SAT II.

Took courses at WU during the HSSP.

Ah, okay. Thanks for the info :)

what essay? the commonapp one? because as far as i remember there was no washu supplement essay, lol that was initially why i wanted to apply

jackdaniels: You’re right. There was no essay in the WUSTL supplement.
Masra91 must mean the commonapp essay… unless they required one in prior years.

No; You’re right. I do mean the commonapp essay. Since they dont have their own supplemental essays it is all that much more important that your common app essay be spectacular if WashU is your first choice. For other schools with multiple essays if all of them are good but one is great, that’s just fine… but since you have one shot you have to make it count.

To masra91:
We are anxiously awaiting the decisions…hopefully this week??? Since you work in the admissions dept…if you attended an informational meeting over the summer, with a tour, and had an interview, does that express enough interest for them to know that wash U is your first choice? Does that help in the overall process? How about the issue of not intending to applying for financial aid…does this work in the candidates favor also? I am talking about little things that might add positively to the overall process, outside of all the objective items like essays, test scores, and grades.
If my son does get admitted, which dorms do you think are the best? When we were there over the summer for a tour I was impressed, but can’t remember which one we were in. Do any of them offer a sink in the room? I heard you can choose modern, traditional, or sub free. Which ones have the largest rooms for a double?

Well first let me clarify, I don’t work in admissions in any capacity of decision making. Those are for the paid professionals.

So as far as interest goes, I think it’s over played in the WUStL decisions. Last year there were over 23,000 applicants; how do people expect the admissions staff to be able to calculate and evaluate “interest” for all of those people? Either way, there’s no point in stressing it now, the decisions are made - just not yet posted.

Dorms - There are two types, Modern and Traditional. If you took a tour you were showed a Modern Double in Lien House.
The dorm types are:

Traditional: Primarily doubles, some singles and some triples. Bathroom’s are down the hall. There are common rooms and on the first floor there is large common space. Basement has computer lab and laundry room. These rooms were renovated last summer with new furniture, new carpet, and tempurpedic mattresses.

Modern: Newer suite style. They also come in single, double, and triple. The average room is a double connection to another double by a common bathroom (so 4 people share the bathroom).

Both of these types also come in a sub-free flavor. These are floors where there is zero tolerance for alcohol and drug use. On all floors drug offenses and possession are a serious offense at WashU, but our alcohol policy is somewhat nuanced. I know a lot of people who like SubFree floors because if they want to go out and party or whatever they can, and when the come home their floor is always a safe place. Other people prefer to be on a floor where alcohol is present regardless of if they chose to consume.

I’ve lived in moderns, my best friend is a traditional kid. We both loved our dorms and so really you can’t go wrong. There are no rooms with a sink in the room but modern dorms have one in the suite like 5 feet away. The rooms are virtually the same size in each.

Masra91,

So do you get to choose to be in one or the other?
For example, if I would like to be in a modern SubFree unit, how do I go about making that choice?

Also, is there any special-interest housing and is what is the housing requirement for all four years?

Many thanks in advance!

When you are accepted you get forms that you can use to confirm your attendance. After matriculation you get the accepted packet with a T-Shirt, and other forms. One of these forms is housing selection. On it you may choose from the options Modern/Traditional, Single, Double, Triple, and SubFree or not. You rank your first three choices, and they do their best to ensure you get your preference.

There are “special interest” housing which we at WUStL call BLOCs. Unfortunately it is not available for freshman. Ever spring upperclassmen can petition to make a BLOC in whatever they want. There have been gaming, language, movies, fraternity/sorority, and many more.

As far as housing requirement I’m not sure what you mean. There is guaranteed housing for all four years. Freshman year you are required to live on campus, after that you are not. All students must have a meal plan as part of their student account. So if you clarify what you mean about housing requirements, I can answer more accurately.

Thanks for all of your valuable information!! I really hope my son has these choices he will have to make!

Thank you. That was extremely helpful! Will we be given tours of these dorms during the Scholars weekend?

And by housing requirement, I had meant if we were required to live on campus for x many years - which you answered, so thanks again. Your reponse though prompted another question: what are available meal plans and which would you recommend?

So if decisions have been made but not yet posted, are you still speculating that they might be released this Wed/Thurs?

Cavemom, speculation is that the decisions will be out someday this week at approximately 5 pm EST on WUSTL Pathway.

The meal plans only differ in number of points. I reccomend getting the SMALLEST plan. If you need more points they can be added at any time online.

Also when buying your meal plan $1.20 gets you 1 point. The extra 20 cents goes to subsidize our staff and facilities. Later if you run out and bill a few hundred more points on the acct you get a 1 to 1 exchange rate. Just a lil loophole.
