Notification of Change of Assignment

I was just wondering..

If you requested a change of housing assignment (e.g., triple to double, a different building or housing type, etc), when are we notified of the change? What happens if the new housing arrangement is of a different price then our last allocation (because initial payments have already been made).

I know we find out who are roommates are in late-August. Is the Change of Assignment before or after that? I appreciate any responses, thanks. Hold me now.

they notify you as soon as they are able to make the change, based on your request (i.e. which building you wanted to switch to). If you requested to move to a popular building that no one is switching out of, it may be a while, if ever, before you get your notification. If the price is different, the housing office will let you know in the letter when you need to pay the difference by.

I sent in an appeal and then changed my mind about it so I sent an email to the housing office, then got a response saying they cancelled it. Just in case though, I'm wondering if this is true: you'd have to acceptthe 2nd offer right? So no matter what, the first assignment you accepted stands unless you decide to change it when they give you your next option.

nope - they just change your assignment. You don't have to accept it, because you requested it.

oh okay. good thing i withdrew then.

Wait, I'm a bit confused.

When we receive our notification, are we allowed to pick either assignment (either our original or our change)?

originally that's what i thought--because, what do they do if they can't grant your exact request and you don't like the second offer? i would assume they would still let you decide whether you should just stick with what you already had, but i guess that's not the case.

my guess is, they give you your exact request or nothing at all. i havent seen the CAR form so i dont know what they ask.

if there are wildcards (like say switching from your Dykstra triple to a double in any hall), then you're screwed if you end up getting a hall you dont want. so i guess be as specific as possible when filling it out?

Oh, the CAR form is actually not that specific. I thought it was going to be, and I thought we would be able to input a reason or something to sway their opinion, but it ended up looking a lot like the housing application again, except that you now get to rank three specific halls/plazas in order.

I put DeNeve as my first choice, followed with Sunset Village and Sproul. I don't think my chances are very good for any of them, but we'll see. :)

oh i see. i dont want to submit one then. i want to stay in de neve. :)

dont want to submit one to try for a double and end up getting booted to another hall.

When we receive our notification, are we allowed to pick either assignment (either our original or our change)?

nope - if they are able to make your request for a change, thats it. You have no further say... unless you want to make another petition for a change :)

got this via email today:

"Due to popular demand by incoming freshmen students, Housing Services has made the decision to open up approximately 50% of the new Rieber Vista Residential Plaza. If you are currently assigned to a triple room and would like the opportunity to move to a double shared room or if you simply would prefer to reside in one of the newest state of the art buildings on campus, please visit www.housing.ucla.edu/change and submit your change of assignment request today.

These requests will be reviewed on a daily basis and will be granted until space runs out, so get your change of assignment request in today!"

hmm...i'm personally not too excited about this plaza offer since i requested a different res hall double (either sproul or rieber)...o well...so HEDRICK DOUBLE it is >=]

should i? i'm in a de neve triple right now... going to rieber vista double (shared bath) would be about $850 more...

VTE I guess it would all depend, do you want a more spacious room with just one roommate, but a more "crowded" bathroom by sharing it with 4 people? or a smaller room, but with one less person to share a bathroom with?

i'm not interested at all in changing or anything, but how come i didn't get this email? did u guys get it on your regular accounts or your @ucla.edu accounts? i checked both and didn't get anything!

hrmm, i didnt get anything either. i was just going by what ObEgOnG said...

rieber vista definitely seems more comfortable. the bathroom is separated into 3 parts, so someone can use the toilet, shower, and sink at the same time. de neve's bathroom is just one room...for 3 people...

BUT, rieber vista is farther up the hill, and not as close to south campus as de neve is...

i dont know if its worth the extra ~$850...(of course thats only up to me or my parents...)

oh well, i have to think this through...

are you serious? omg that's SOOOO nice and appealing! and the rooms are much bigger too I bet, esp. a double. the place lives up to its name, sounding all exotic and all with the whole "vista" thing.

great :( now everyone with triples will want that, leave, and I won't have a roommate becuase all the De Neve triplets will have moved to Rieber Vista...and therefore De Neve will be emptied out of a lot of freshmen. Most people want a Plaza and pay more for comfort, and a triple defeats that whole purpose so I bet a lot will opt for an R.V. double.

hmmph.

soo....all the de neve triples will turn into doubles! :D

i realllly thinking about it...but $850 is a lot...and de neve is closer to campus...

Where do Rieber VIsta-ers eat? I mean I know you can eat anywhere, but does it have its own dining hall? or do they use the nearest one?

nearest one...rieber's dining hall
