Notification to College Counselors

I was on the Cornell thread to wish them luck this afternoon and saw a thread that discussed whether or not Cornell informed Guidance/College counselors of their student's decisions prior to release dates. There was a lot of speculation on either side of this question. Although it is somewhat meaningless, I wondered if anyone, particularly parents, had any thoughts about this relevant to Dartmouth.

I applied RD, but my counselor knew whether or not I had been accepted to every school to which I applied at least 2 weeks before I did.

EDIT: But she never told me, and she still refuses to admit she knew. All that she does is give me a smirk whenever I ask…

Are you KIDDING me???
This can’t be true—esp. for ED—THEY don’t even know 2 weeks out.
Anyone else have anything to contribute about this?

I can’t speak for all schools or for Cornell or Dartmouth specificially, but I know this is not true for all schools. I spoke at length to an MIT adcom once, and she told me that there was arguing and horse-trading going on in the committee, with applicants going on and off the accepted list, right up until the notifications were sent out to the students.

In RD, a lot of schools send out LLs. I wonder if they notify counselors which students will receive LLs because I swear my counselor knew. Maybe she didn’t know, but I really think she did.
