Notification?

Deferred. Congrats to everyone who got in, and to those who were deferred or rejected, it will be alright, we will end up where we are supposed to be :)

Still nothing as of mail delivery yesterday here in SW OH.

Wow, Ryantoe…considering the stats you posted in another earlier thread, I’m surprised they didn’t at least defer you.

@usernamelm The acceptance letter was in a large Priority Mail envelope (red/white, cardboard, had a pull tab, and had “Priority Mail” printed on it).

My stats:
I did not send in my SATS
Writing-720, Reading-690, Math- 670

Grades this fall semester were all A’s. My freshman, sophomore and junior year I had mostly A’s and a maybe a few B+'s (And that is taking the most rigorous classes offered at my schools)

My alumni interview went very well, she told me that I was a strong candidate and she would highly recommend me

Letters of rec were also very positive, I loved all of my teachers and really enjoyed their classes

EC’s:
Heavily involved in theater with many leads each year
President of a female A Cappella group
Select Choir member
VP of school newspaper
Varsity Track and Field, MIP
Volunteer camp counselor for 4 summers
Volunteer helper at an inner city school (everyday after school for junior trimester)
Volunteer for local senior citizen center
(there are more but these are my main activities)

Awards:
I received school academic awards all 4 years of high school
AP Scholar award
Regional Singing award

All of my essays were very strong.

-My college counselor called the bowdoin admission officer who read my app and she said that with this ED1 round, they were in a bit of a number crunch due to the increase in apps as well as the number of students who chose to gap years. I am also in contact with an alumni interviewer and he said that ED usually focuses on athletes, minorities and legacies, but this is not to say that they do not admit others as well.

Once again, congrats to those who were accepted. If you are like me and were deferred or if you were rejected, do not worry, you will end up at the right school for you.

Good Luck! :)

sunshine, good for you for taking the attitude that you’ll end up at the right place for you. Good luck with RD. In some ways, deferral can be a good thing – you’ve told Bowdoin in the strongest terms that they’re your first choice, but you still will be able to change your mind and go somewhere else if they accept you during RD.

Aiyee, the acceptances come via Priority Mail? I wonder if that means anything regarding the letters that haven’t yet arrived. :frowning: Do the defer/deny letters come in a regular business envelope?

Thanks DrPepperGuy. And ugh, no letter yet–valereee I share your concerns over the priority mail! We are in WV.

One more question–DrPepperGuy and other acceptees–do any of you NOT fall into the three categories of minority, athletes or legacies?

No letter for me yet, however a friend who is a minority got in. I guess I haven’t been accepted. :</p>

I don’t fall into any of those categories. I’m not a minority, legacy, or athlete.

Good to hear, dpg. Thanks for the info!

I’m black/african american, so does that automatically make me a minority or a URM, and improve my chances? regardless of economic background?

I got deferred. So, there’s still hope yet.

Deferred as well. Le sigh.

BMuddy, I believe you are correct.

usernamelm u got deffered?, are u a minority?

and what do you do when u get deferred?? Should I be happy for hope if it happens, is there any thing I have to do or do I have to wait for another answer?

oh and does deffered mean waitlisted? whats the difference lol

Congrats dpg! You must at least be an outstanding student or leader. It probably doesn’t hurt to be from West Texas either. Bowdoin is definitely shooting for geographic diversity. Isn’t West Texas like another state compared to the rest of Texas. Rest Texas vs West Texas, ha, ha…

Those that received a deferral/rejection–did your letter come in a priority mail envelope or a regular business mail envelope?

The deferral came in a regular business envelope. One sheet.

BMuddy, deferred means you go in the regular applicant pool; you are no longer an ED applicant. Waitlisted happens in April–you aren’t offered a spot, but if they need more people later (too many people turn them down) they might go back and admit you in the summer.
