notification?

alright i'm confused. I went on a tour of Loyola and at the information session they told us that after we submitted our apps they would notify us within a couple of months whether or not they are going to accept us early or wait for midyear reports. They made it clear that regardless of their decision they would contact us. I sent my application in in mid-november. I have yet to hear anything back from them. Is this bad?

Something is very wrong with your application if you haven't gotten a response yet. They probably don't have all the information that they requested like SAT scores, Letters of Recommendations, transcripts, etc. My daughter applied on line on 12/30 and got her Deferral letter on Saturday. I would call the Admissions office.

My son heard on 2/3, the application was sent in the week of Dec. 1st. He was given the opportunity to enter the honors program, however, they have given him less than a week to accept to get into the program. No word on merit aid and the Financial aid newsletter that we got from them states that scholarship notices come out in the middle of March. Unfortunately, he will need to make his decision on college choice based on merit and money. So he can not make the decision on the honors program as quickly as needed.

Did Loyola ever sent a letter out that said they recieved you application? Because I never recieved one, and am getting scared that they never got it.

I would call the Admissions office like we did!

Jennymcool, how does Loyola expect a family to make such an important decision without some critical information regarding Merit Money? Have you asked them for an extension?

Also, would you post your son's stats to help others know what kind of applicant gets such great news so fast? Loyola only accepts 50 out of 300 Honors Program applicants, so your son must have really stood out.

thanks --this info is for a friend's son FYI

Okay, I got my facts wrong. He got an application for the honors program which is due on 2/15. I am strongly encouraging him to apply, since he did not get any merit information with the acceptance. It really comes down to money for him next year and will only go into serious debt for his reach.
Stats: SAT, Math 690, Reading 660, Writing ( not sure, but about 630)
SAT II- US History 790, Math I 590

He only needed 1 credit for his senior year.

Jenny McCool and South Jersey chess mom- Are your kids going to Loyola? Secondly is anyone going to the Open House on 4/22/2006?

Hi Bravens- I was asking questions on the Loyola for my friend's son, who got a great merit package from U of Miami ($22,000)and Honor's Program, and he will be going there. They really liked Loyola a lot , but that package was $12,000, so they moved on.

Your D is going to Loyola, right? Congrats to her, and to YOU :)

My D and I will be at Open House on Saturday. She needs to see it again because now she is not too sure about it. She thought it was too small when we first went to visit but she loved the area and the dorms ...

College Decision-What other schools is your daughter considering? Loyola is small but I feel that is a good thing.

She received two good financial aid packages from Loyola and Drexel with both colleges offering her large grants. PSU and UM-College Park only offered her a Stafford loan.

My daughter wanted to attend a large university located in a city, but we had heard about Loyola from people and went to see it last year. She liked the college and the area, but thought the campus was too small. She loved the dorms! So she applied and fortunately, she got it. Alot of her friends were waitlisted.

We are going to Loyola's Open House for Admitted Students tomorrow and Drexel's on Sunday. So by Sunday, she should be able to make her decision.

I am not sure which way I am leaning. We live in NJ close to Philadelphia, so Drexel is closer, but Loyola isn't that far either. She is majoring in Biology and planning on medical school.

What are your thoughts on Loyola's Biology Department? Or on Drexel's?

I have to admit I know nothing about Drexel. I am Loyola Class of 74 and my daughter will be going there too. The Science department is good but I can't compare it to Drexel. Alot of kids from NY and NJ go to Loyola so she will feel at home. Let me know how it goes this weekend. We are going to be there. Unfortunately they are calling for heavy rains.

Loyola has aprogram where they work with the students to place them in Medical school and other Graduate schools

Really? That's really good. Hopefully, tomorrow, we will find out more about the Science programs offered at Loyola. Thanks.
