Notification

Come april, how will they notify us of our admissions decision?

a letter in the mail

Big envelopes are acceptances and small envelopes are rejections or wait list. ND may send out financial aid information request forms prior to the letter which may be a sign of interest.

Hi Irish - My daughter was deferred - but yesterday received a package about financial aid - your post suggest that this might be a good sign - should we see this as a good omen? BTW on her application we did not ask for aid - thanks in advance

Please note that this happens every year and it seems as if everyone who gets the letter gets accepted, but please realize the following. If they got the letter and were not accepted, then they probably don’t come to the ND forum, so they don’t say that they get accepted.

However, I am not sure if that is a good sign or not - i did not get one and was accepted, and I bet that people who did get one got accepted and probably some people that got one did not get accepted.

Hawk makes a good point. I would be interested to see if anyone knows more about these financial aid packages and if they are in any way shape or form tied to admission decisions. My gut tells me though that they might be a good omen.

*The last sentence of the first paragraph of my last post should end, “so they don’t say that they got denied.”

I think the last sentence of the financial aid letter is very clear:

“Note: This brochure is sent to all students who apply for admission to the University of Notre Dame and should not be interpreted as an admission decision.”

I understand that bostonvillanova- I was just wondering if they do in fact send it out to everyone- also people on these boards seem to know certain patterns- just like the 3rd tab that appears on your BC website before your receive your decision.

I wouldn’t put much stock in the last sentence of the financial aid letter. Those mailers are costly and ND does not have the money or time to send them out to everyone and then process them when they are returned. My experience with ND, other undergraduate programs, and graduate programs suggests that these financial aid packages generally precede admission. I can’t be certain though.

I am with you Sharp101 - hope it is a positive sign - either way it is a very nice summary of financial aid optons.

So I was admitted to ND Early, but haven’t recieved any financial aid package, even though I applied for it. Is this a BAD sign??? I thought financial aid packages don’t come out yet…

Academy_Girl - Let me clarify- the mailing is not an actual application - there is a cover letter instructing you how to apply for aid on-line- also a 10 page color brochure “Affording a Notre Dame Education” listing all available programs, loan programs , money management- how to apply - the first page reads “Dear prospective student and family” you might have already received this if you were admitted. I kind of agree with Irish this would be very costly to print and send to all applicants- fingers crossed!!!

I hate to burst anyone’s bubble but my son received this last year. He was WL regular decision and then received notification in July that he didn’t get in. I think this is mailed to everyone.

Notre Dame requires both the FAFSA and CSS to be filled out, and the deadline date is quite early 2/15/2010, so whether you’ve received a letter or not, you and your parents need to get busy and begin to fill them out as soon as possible. Gather all those tax documents that will be trickling in for the 2009 tax year, and fill out your 2010 taxes. While you don’t have to send in the tax documents until April 15th, you need to complete them ASAP, so you have the information required for both FAFSA and CSS.

I had taken a lot of concurrent courses through a local college during high school, and they sent me a form to waive my college credits before I received my early admission letter in December. My Gifted counselor said that this was a very good sign, and it makes sense that it would be.

if i remember correctly financial aid info for everyone is mailed in mid April

thanks! yes, I did recieve that brochure :)

I already received a financial aid package from Notre Dame, but only applied a few weeks ago, so it seems somewhat unlikely that it has anything to do with interest as just a few weeks seems like a lot for them to have even taken a look at my application yet.

Last week my son received the financial aid flier which is strange because he applied RA and we do not require financial aid. On a somewhat different topic, does anyone know if ND sends out admission letters as early as February or March or does everyone RA wait until April 1? He should get in rather easily, so that’s frankly not the concern but timing could become an issue. Other schools have already begun offering him enticements such as early honors admission, etc. Thanks.
