Hey all, I was recently nominated for the Presidential Scholar Award and was just wondering if I should let the schools I applied to know about it. Would it make a difference at this point? And if so, should I just email them? Thanks a bunch.

My daughter was also sent notification of the presidential scholar nomination. We did notify her colleges. While there are approx. 3,000 students who were nominated, and some say it's not a big deal, we felt it couldn't hurt to let them know...even though they can probably guess which students are going to be the ones nominated, it's a recent addition to your accomplishments and gives you an appropriate way to contact them and sort of say "don't forget about me..."

They should/would know whether or not your PSP qualifier material based on your SAT or ACT score. Since PSP qualification is basically the same as showing that you scored well on the SAT and/or ACT, there really is no point to notify your colleges about it other than to show off the fact that you can do well on a standardized test.
My advice: Don't notify them about it. You can notify them about it if/when you move on to the semifinalist round, though, since that actually depends on your grades and extracurrics (stuff that the colleges are judging you more heavily on).

Using this reasoning, there would also be no reason to report NM status as those are just based on test scores and turning in forms. While an 800/800 assures being a PS candidate, in some states a slightly lower score might also make the cut.

^ You'd report National Merit status because you don't send your PSAT scores to the colleges, therefore they wouldn't know whether or not you'd make NM based on your PSAT if you don't tell them. You do, however, report your SAT and/or ACT score to colleges.

I recently was names a PS candidate. The only school I notified was Yale, because I applied early action to them and had done a bunch of other stuff since I applied as well.
