I'm currently in AP calc AB and a senior who just applied for EA. But i'm worried that this won't be good enough considering most people who apply to harvard have already taken BC. I'm going to self-study BC second semester, though, because i heard it isn't too hard to study, and my calc teacher said he would tutor me in it if i had any questions.

do you think it's worth calling the admissions office and telling them? thank you!

diddly, please relax and stop trying to second guess what Admissions is looking for. Many admitted students have only Calc AB under their belt. Some have NOT taken any Calc and just have taken pre-calc. Not every admitted student is a math person – if they were, Harvard’s Math department would not offer Math 1a or 1b (the equivalent of Calc BC) to students.

Don’t call Admissions and notify them of anything, as you will come across as an insecure person – someone who doesn’t have confidence in their application, which will make them second guess their decision if they have put your file into the “accepted” pile.

Just to chime in and add to what gibby said. I was admitted after only taking Calc AB, and several other people I know here have only taken Calc AB as well. Relax; taking AB or BC will almost surely not be the deciding factor in an admissions decision.

On a related note, I’d advise for you to self study Calc BC only if you honestly really want to. Senior year is an amazing year, and it only happens once. Don’t waste it away doing things that you’re only marginally interested in.
