Hi,
My school would not let me put anywhere on my Common App that I was ranked #2. I had to put that I was in the Top 10%, but being Salutatorian puts me in the Top 1%. Today, they made it official. Midyear reports are still not sent out yet. I asked my guidance counselor if it will be included in the report, but if not, should I notify colleges? I know I can put it in for MIT in the FUN form, but otherwise I would have to email the schools
They likely don’t care. The only people that care about Val and Sal are their parents.
@Eeyore123 Okay. Even though I didn’t have any rank reported on my app before, other than the decile?
I also applied to some TX publics which I do know care about rank, but mostly In-State
I would ask your GC to include the information with your midterm grades.
So did your GC update colleges with that info? I’m not clear. If the GC has done so, no, don’t email, unless you have other significant info to share. If the GC hasn’t updated, then yes, I would want college to know that you are top 1%. Better if you have some other significant update too.
I’m not sure yet; my GC is not answering me. If they already did, I won’t email them @Lindagaf @momofsenior1
The reason I said it won’t matter is that your rank doesn’t convey any additional information from your 3.98 GPA. If you were Sal with a 3.75, that would be different story.
I think it definitely matters, namely for scholarships. My D18 encountered several schools that want you to be in the top 1-2%. Good luck.
@h8annah I would definitely ask your GC in person to get an answer promptly about this. Texas colleges are still making admissions decisions at this point so it is not too late to notify them. I agree that in TX class rank is a big thing, especially considering the possibilities of qualifying for scholarships and special programs. Maybe just make a Letter of Continued Interest or a e-mail that wraps both your top 1% status with a continued enthusiasm for the college you applied to.
Best of luck
