I have no legacies, but I have a letter from a priest at my church who taught at Notre Dame for 20 years saying I am a qualified candidate.

Should I hold out much hope here, or start to look somewhere more realistic??

Thanks.

3.8 GPA and 34 ACT for a white Catholic mail with solid sport EC’s and and an Eagle Scout is certainly on target for Notre Dame. You, of course, should not give up hope, and, in fact, should remain relatively optimistic. I would consider you a match (>55% chance)

Thanks. One thing. I am in the 7th percentile of my graduating class. Do you think this will hold me back? I have heard that Notre dame takes class rank into their equation.

^They (and most other schools) will consider your class rank (if available) along with their assessment of the rigor of your HS. Being in the top 10% of a rigorous HS would be in your favor.

I think you look very good! Obviously I can’t give you a yes or a no, but definitely don’t give up hope!

If you’re looking for something to improve, you could try to do some consistent volunteering this summer. ND likes service I think more than the average school, and it would be a great essay topic :)

My daughter has a 5.86/4.0 weighted scale - 4.0/4.0 unweighted, is #2/400 and has tons of volunteering, school leadership, athletics, etc. ACT 33. She was deferred from ED at ND and just got accepted. It is impossible to predict what schools are looking for - just know that if you have done all you can do and DON’T get in it doesn’t mean you’re not qualified - they just don’t have room in a freshman class of 1600! I believe over 27,000 kids applied this year…keep up the good work and check out other schools, too!
