Notre Dame Class of 2025 Regular Decision

@100lbdog - FA letters usually take time. I honestly don’t remember if EA admits get aid letters sooner. I would assume so. FYI - The Financial Aid department is very nice. You might give them a call to see if they have a targeted timeframe for the letters to be out. I would expect the answer to be along the lines of “We release them as we finish them”. You might ask when they hope/expect to have the REA letters all done by.

On a side note - I have posted many times about the generosity of ND. They provide “need-based” aid to families with much higher incomes than you might expect. When you complete the FAFSA - check your EFC. My guess is the FA will cover enough to have your amount be less than that, assuming you/your student will have the basic Federal student loans.

Hi @RegionNWI and everyone else deferred, I am now in the ND class of 2024 and was deferred, let me know if you have any questions or message me directly, and I’ll give you any tips I can!

Hello to all deferred! I am a current student at ND who was originally deferred. When I tell you I was absolutely heartbroken to receive the news, I don’t mean that lightly. I really thought it was the end of the road, but it wasn’t! If anyone wants to message me about what I did in between my deferral and acceptance or just to chat about how to deal with the emotional side of it all, I am more than happy to help

What did you do after being deferred?

I’m confused. How did she apply to 2 schools REA ?

Notre Dame and Georgetown rules allow you to apply to both REA. This is different than ED rules and other top 20 REA schools. For example, Georgetown states that students are “allowed to apply to other Early Action or other Regular Decision programs while simultaneously applying to Georgetown’s Early Action program.” They also describe that you cannot apply to “any binding Early Decision programs.” Similar language from Notre Dame.

You need to read the policy of every school as different.

Thank you so much!

thank you so much! my mom agreed that we could check the portal on Monday should nothing come!

I was deferred.

  • 1600 SAT
  • 3.894 GPA (although it was brought down by an iffy freshman year, Junior and Senior year are both 4.0 as of now)
  • Average course load for Junior year in my school (AP Chem and Calc AB, IB Hist HL and IB French SL)
  • Difficult course load for Senior year in my school (AP Physics C, AP Stats, continuing IB history, Linear algebra and differential equations, although I did drop IB French to learn Latin in my spare time which i mentioned on my application)
  • Eagle scout
  • Columbia Science Honors Program student
  • 300+ hours community service
  • No sports
  • Internship at local environmental research center (although internships are required by my school)
  • National Merit Semifinalist
  • Essays good but not amazing amazing IMO
  • Vocational school in NJ (number one in the nation according to niche if that matters)
  • NOT catholic (listed no religion on app)

How should I proceed with being deferred? Do you think I have a chance of getting in despite not being catholic? ND is my very first choice school.

Yes. You definitely have some stand out attributes. Reach out to your admissions rep and make sure they know that ND is your top choice. Also send in your semester grades and while you mention National Merit Semifinalist, did you submit any SAT/ACT scores? If you can get a good one in, I would send it. The religious part will not hurt you at all. many different religions at ND. Many times schools like ND want to know if you would accept an admission offer. Yields are important. Some want just a little more in term of commitment as well as something to stand out a bit more. Deferred is definitely not no, nor wait list.

I’m not sure if you’re replying to me, but yes, I self-reported my 1600. The admissions office is closed until January 6th, so my current plan is to send a super brief email describing my interest to my rep on the 6th then send a formal letter of continued interest in late january. Is that a good idea?

Should a 33 composite ACT be submitted? I’ll be applying for poli sci.

I think that’s a great idea. Have your mid-year grades sent in as well and then report anything like awards, honors, leadership etc. that you do that isn’t on your current application. You don’t want to be obnoxious, but you DO want them to see you in the best light possible and know that your interest is strong.

My daughter was also deferred. Heavily involved in athletics. Captain of two sports (basketball and softball). She has recently had a couple of nice articles written featuring her accomplishments on the court, and her team is off to an amazing season so far.

In writing a letter, should we highlight those articles? They both speak to her work ethic. Unfortunately, sports take up a majority of her extracurricular time, ao not really sure what other things we could highlight. Her grades are still all A’s, so we will send those obviously.

My son was accepted REA and while he does have very strong stats and academics, we think his acceptance was in large part because of the service he performed and his focus toward helping others. Notre Dame speaks frequently about looking for students that match their vision of being a force for good in the world. I would suggest that your daughter focus on the things she is currently doing on that front and highlight how she hopes to continue or expand on that vision while on campus. Good luck!!!

@petermh12 - Do you plan to attend ND? If so, welcome home.

My Niece was accepted EA to Notre Dame. Can someone posts in this thread once they receive their financial aid package. We were told it would come the first or second week in January if you submitted all of your FAFSA/CSS docs by November 1st, which we did. Thanks !
