Notre Dame financial aid

During the financial aid process, I was just curious about some previous admits and how much money Notre Dame had given. They advertise that the estimated grant is around 30-40K, but I have no idea how much I am going to get based on m assets and FAFSA. If you don’t mind, what was your EFC from the FAFSA and how much money did you end up receiving from Notre Dame, if any?

My EFC ended up being 0 and I ended up receiving need-based aid that covered my whole tuition plus my room and board here.

“I have no idea how much I am going to get based on m assets and FAFSA.”

Have you been admitted? Did you run the Net Price Calculator on ND’s website? As long as your parents’ finances are pretty straightforward, the NPC is fairly accurate. We have found ND to be fairly generous.

ETA: did you submit the CSS Profile? You need to send that in as well.

^^echoing Suzy100’s response.

Go to the ND financial aid website (http://financialaid.nd.edu/ ), scroll to the bottom right corner and select Net Price Calculator from the Toolbox. You will need your parent’s info to fill this out. The amount of aid predicted by running the NPC was extremely accurate for our family. We received the amount it told us w/in $1000. Three things that I can think of that can skew results 1) If your parents are divorced, 2) if you parents own their own business, or 3) if circumstances change drastically between the time you fill it out and time you apply for financial aid.

I can’t tell you how our ND EFC compared to our FAFSA one…as I never gave the FAFSA one much credence as most of my kids schools used the CSS Profile or their own methodology.

Good luck!

I was accepted to Notre Dame for EA, does anybody know when financial aid packages are released?

Congrats on your acceptance, @eskaliding . My son was accepted EA last year and his financial aid letter is dated March 24. Last year everything was sent snail mail…so we didn’t get until a few days after that. I believe we were on the earlier side in terms of receiving our aid letter, but according to our experience I would guess you may receive your info later this month. We were on pins and needles as my son couldn’t commit until we had that information in hand. Good luck!

@bjdkin Thank you very much. My decision will be largely based on financial aid, so I do hope that the packages come out this month.

Just got my package tonight, only have to pay like 2k/yr

ND requested IDOC info from collegeboard, but he was rejected. wonder why they would ask for info from students they don’t admit??

@RangerJerry Probably just an automated message. Sort of silly they wouldn’t have claimed that up though so that they aren’t adding to the feeling of rejection.

Got ours yesterday. Son can work for $1475 per semester, and take an unsubsidized loan of $2750 per semester. Those figures are correct. Not missing any zeros.

I ended up with a $2000 subsidized loan and $2950 work study. I also got a $5000 provost scholarship and $50000 university grant. My EFC WAS $6400 if that helps.

Seems like the EFC is a good approximation of what a family is expected to pay. Maybe that’s why it’s called that.

It’s also the case that if a family saves for college, and has saved enough to cover the costs, then that family will not receive financial aid.

@Exmark seems we’ve had a similar experience. Thought we would submit the forms this year because we will have 2 in college but it doesn’t look like it makes a difference for us.

Good luck, @Mrspepper . For those blessed with financial aid awards, I hope there is a sense of thanks, appreciation and gratitude, and resulting motivation to contribute to the Notre Dame community and vision.

Thanks @Exmark! To you, too. Not complaining, really. Just gave it a shot because we didn’t try it the first year. It’s great how generous schools are. Just crazy how much full pay is. It makes you feel foolish for not going for Alabama or Oklahoma type merit pay especially if your kids are looking at grad/med school.

Exactly. Same thoughts towards the future, here. It’s a value, and a values(!) decision. My family are all definitely heading to an accepted-student open house in April, as it has been a while since our tour, to make sure the “fit and feel” are still good.

Great idea! We love ND and the experiences DS has so far. Hopefully it’s as good a fit for no. 2.

@GianRaf @CubsWS2016 @XoXdreamerXoX Are the financial aid packages released online or sent in the mail? I was accepted EA but have received no financial aid as of yet, even though I applied for it

@eskaliding I got mine via email first then a packet later in the week. It all depends upon when I submitted all your documents. My FAFSA was in mid-January and my IDOC/CSS were all sent in the first week or so of February.
