Did anyone get notified of any merit scholarships from ND today? They came out around this time last year.
I just received an email from ND about my son being nominated as a semifinalist for a merit scholarship!! Totally unexpected but of course welcome!
Yes, it came through on Saturday.
@beastmode221 - keep in mind ND has a very generous FA program. My DS was NMF with a 1550 SAT and did not get considered for merit. Based on our EFC, ND made a great offer with only standard student loans involved. Our EFC would not qualify for need-based FA at most schools. Go Irish!
To add to what @usma87 said, most local ND Alumni Clubs offer Scholarships to students from their region as well. These are usually added to your financial aid package AFTER the initial award from Notre Dame. It was significant enough that it had an impact on my son’s college choice.
If you applied RD and are a semifinalist for a merit scholarship would you know by now? Or are all the people currently notified ED people??
@kiwipanda00 I believe the merit invites may have gone out to both REA and RD applicants. There is a post on another thread that indicates they are RD and received the merit invite. You could always have your son/daughter contact the admissions office and ask, because I don’t really know this for sure.
Roughly 3% of enrolled students receive merit-based aid. There is no separate application needed to be considered, and candidates will be contacted in late January with a request for additional information. Supplemental materials are due mid-February, I believe - finalists will subsequently be notified of next steps. Also, merit-based aid will likely replace any ND need-based financial aid, if applicable.
@WineLover Just curious if you applied for financial aid. As @hpcsa pointed out, the merit aid would simply replace need-based aid. So in our daughter’s case, it would be a waste of time for us and for the ND admissions staff, since our need-based aid will be well in excess of any merit award.
Ultimately the question is this, do you think ND sends the invites for merit-based aid to only those people that would benefit financially if they received the award?
@GraceDad I can only speak for our family. We did submit the FAFSA etc. to Notre Dame, but we are definitely not eligible for need based aid. We did the FAFSA mainly because one of the schools my son applied to required it in order to award merit aid. I think to answer your question, we would need to hear from people who are eligible for need based aid and see if they were invited to apply for merit.
I also think merit awards are to sweeten the pot for those families who don’t qualify for financial aid. Good luck to all of those in the running!
@GraceDad @WineLover Our D was accepted REA and will be eligible for some need-based aid. We did submit FAFSA, Profile, etc. She did receive an email for merit-based scholarship, which was submitted last night.
Thank you @FourToPutThrough
Has anyone found out about finalist status? If not, when should we expect a notification based off prior years? I know it said mid to late Feb in the email, but using previous release dates, can we narrow that down?
I’m not sure but I heard they usually come out February 20-22
Last year they came out on President’s day, which was the 18th…crossing my fingers that it’s today!
Does anyone know what time of day is typical? Is it the same 18:42 deal
Does anyone know what time of day? Is it still the 18:42 deal
Was anyone notified yet?
@P2S20209 Nothing here yet.
