Notre Dame or University of Nebraska-Lincoln Raikes School

Hi guys! I'm a high school senior. I'm currently deciding between the above mentioned schools for a computer engineering major. I've been accepted into both and am currently waiting for financial aid from both. I expect to pay $5000 - $8000 for ND and $0 - $1000 for UNL. Money isn't the issue though. My question is about the experience and programs per college. I grew up in Lincoln so I know UNL campus, and I have also visited ND. I like both and can't decide between the two. Can anyone give some advice or experience from either or anything about computer engineering in general? Thanks in advance!

For $5,000 or so, I’d go with Notre Dame. – Wait until you get your financial aid package though.
I assume you’re Catholic and you’re comfortable with the Catholic identity and football “culture” - so, there’s no comparison between the two in terms of opportunities.

ND The alumni support is amazing.

I personally would choose the Raikes School if you are dead set on computer science/engineering (but I am a computer guy) .They are doing some amazing things at that school with design thinking, agile methodology, partnering with great companies, etc. it is a fabulous honors program. Truly, a small school within a large university. I can almost guarantee that the course pedagogy, learning, etc will be superior at UNL because of the way their courses are integrated.

You can’t go wrong with ND either.

Win Win here.

Thanks MYOS and mom2collegekids! I have heard a lot of great things about the extensive alum network and yes, I am a proud Catholic!

Haystack, I did ask one of the Raikes School admissions people and they mentioned the same thing about streamlined courses/integration and said it was one of their reasons that I should pick Raikes over ND.

Thanks for the advice!

Notre Dame is more highly ranked in your field, and has national name recognition and connections to help you get a job. On the outside chance you change majors, Notre Dame is a higher caliber school all around.

The Catholic kids in my neck of the woods would feel they won the lottery to get into Notre Dame. I’ve been to the campus (beautiful!) and have a dear friend who went there… If the financial aid is within your reach, I think you should go for it.

Thanks Picapole. I’ll be sure to consider that in a few weeks when I get a financial package from Notre Dame.

I think Notre Dame is a great deal for that price, I’d go with ND.

Well, my financial aid package came in and it’s not as favorable as my parents and I had hoped. The FA package expects my parents to put in around $10,000 and they can barely afford that. But, they are hesitating to send me to ND because the online ND FA website says to expect increased costs each year. They don’t want me to accept ND only to have to take out a loan next year as the costs/tuition increases. If anyone here is or has experience with ND FA, can you tell me if ND adjusts FA packages to match the rise in tuition? Do they add scholarships or add in more student loans, and by how much? Again, thanks for all the help!
