notre dame transfer chances

Hey guys!

im looking to transfer into notre dame for my sophomore year. what are my chances of getting in??

*white, female

High School
1. 3.6 GPA (unweighted)
2. SAT 2000
3. Went to a catholic college prep school (big feeder into ND)
4. 10 extracirricular activites including but not limited to National Honor Society, the music department (large involvement- band, choir, musical, etc.), leadership postions in ministry and nominated part of the leadership team and swim team
5. great recommedations
6. applied to notre dame- got denied (this was understandable, my GPA was low)

College
1. 3.9 GPA
2. catholic college
3. part of hall government (leadership position), again very involved in music (band, choir)
4. major foreseeable problem = i will not have the recommended Calc II and Chem II courses the university suggests. this is because im taking music classes and wasnt able to fit calc amd chem in 1st semester. (i have talked to an admissions counselor about this and she said the may admit me on a contingency that i take the courses over the summer before entering ND)

thanks!! any and all help is appreciated

Hi Lilymarie,

It is great that you have already spoken with an admissions counselor, that is a great first step. Your GPA is high enough, but the courses worry me. ND will accept transfer students missing a class, sometimes two, but two may be pushing it. Is there any way you could take an extra class next semester so you are only missing one of the courses? I think it would help your chances greatly because taking one of those courses is feasible over the summer, but two would be pretty tough!

There are two main things that they look for in transfers: GPA and courses. If your GPA is 3.7+, you should be in good shape. Keep your grades up and try as hard as you can to get as close to the schedule they want you to have!

Have you seen my transfer website yet? If not, check it out at [Transferring to Notre Dame](http://community.wvu.edu/~mrn006/ndtransfer/). My email address is on there in case you have more questions (I don’t always check the board anymore, and won’t be on much this next week because I have a conference).

Hi irish68178,

thank you so much for getting back to me. unfortunately, i will not be able to squeeze in any extra classes this semester. the classes that im missing all require pre-recquisite courses. i wont be able to take Calc I and Calc II during the same semester, for example, because Calc I is a pre-recquisite to Calc II. The same applies to Chem I and Chem II. I know that the chances of getting into ND as a transfer are currently around 25%. Does not having two reccommended courses make my chances nearly impossible?

Not if you do your homework and can find a way to convince them that you can get it done over the summer. I would look at the colleges around where you are and see if they offer the courses you would need, and if no, if you would be able to take both or if they meet everyday. If you could put in your application that you have investigated it and will be able to take both over the summer I think it will greatly improve your application!
