Notre Dame, UPenn or Wake Forest

Hard decision. What's your opinion about engineering/bio at these schools? Deciding on the best fit...........Input?

This should not be a hard decision. Even if you were offered a full-ride at Notre Dame or Wake Forest, I would tell you to go to Penn. I only know what Wake Forest is because my friend went there last year…she had B’s and C’s.

Best of luck!

In terms of engineering schools, Penn has a batter reputation than Notre Dame. And Wake Forest doesn’t even have an engineering school as far as I know. Both Penn and Notre Dame have excellent biology departments- not sure about Wake.

If I were you I would choose between Penn and Notre Dame. They have better known national reputations than Wake Forest (great school, but not well known), and much more extensive alumni networks. But socially Penn and Notre Dame are polar opposites. Do some serious research in the respect before you make your decision. Good Luck.

I agree with cwmpenn that there are a lot of soft personal factors to consider. I would say that unless you plan on working in the South, it’s probably between Penn and ND. Wake’s very strong in South, but doesn’t have the national recognition that either Penn or ND do. Not that it’s not a great school, just small student bodies make for small alumni networks.

In my area of expertise (the world of finance), although Penn and ND are about even for academic quality, top employers simply go deeper into the class at Penn than they do at ND. As far as bio, my impression is that Penn’s UG sciences get a boost from the recognition of Penn Med, something ND does not have. Engineering is probably one of ND’s weakest competencies whereas Penn is probably a bit better. Full disclosure: I’m straying away from my area of intimate familiarity a bit with engineering, but what I have comes from the perspective of employers and general prestige out here on the East Coast.

As I try to remind y’all in all your decisions, a lot of times there really are no bad choices. Penn, ND, and WF are all very good schools where you will meet brilliant students from all over the country. I just try to impart my experiences, and you’re welcome to factor them into your decision as you please.
