Notre dame vs pepperdine

In comparison, I'm guessing this will be a little biased but oh well. Dorms, food, location, nightlife, religiousness, attractiveness of girls, academics (sciences), athletics (fan base, attendence: total students)

From a quick look, it appears that if you want a better climate, location, nightlife and all of that, then Pepperdine is best (I mean it is in Malibu). Just looking at a couple of rankings, it appears that Notre Dame is a better academic school and I would assume that we have a much better Alumni Network than Pepperdine. I think it is pretty clear that we also have a superior athletic program than theirs both in students and fan base. The two have similar sizes. It is also hard to beat ND in terms of religiousness as well. I don’t know about dorms or food however.

I think this boils down to a classic case of good weather and an above average institution or inferior weather and an excellent school. I would visit both as they do look like they are different enough to tell which one you would like better.

Dorms, food, location, nightlife, attractiveness of girls: Hands down Pepperdine. “Dorms like Palaces” according to the Princeton Review, ocean view dorms and cafeteria, Malibu is 20 minutes from Santa Monica/Hollywood/L.A. nightlife, and the girls are stereotypical California beach bunnies.

Religiousness: Pepperdine is more religious. Three required religion classes and compulsory chapel 14 times a semester. It has a different vibe from Catholic Notre Dame.

Athletics: Notre Dame hands down has higher game attendance. With no football team, Pepperdine’s biggest sport is basketball.

Pepperdine’s biggest is baseball i thought — and i mean i guess ND doesn’t force anyone to go to mass and things like that but from ppl i talk to it seems to be a major hub for Catholics in the US

I am Catholic and I visited Pepperdine over my Spring Break. I did not like it.
-I felt like the people there were snobby and thought they were better than you because they all drive $80,000 BMW’s.
-The campus is absolutely beautiful though, but it’s no short jaunt to LA or Santa Monica by any stretch. Traffic on the PCH is terrible, and I live in Houston so it’s terrible by comparison to some of the worst traffic in the nation. It’d take about 30-45 mins of stop and go traffic to get to Santa Monica/LA, and by the time you got there you would not want to drive back.
-The girls were pretty hot there, but nothing special. There was this one girl I saw in the cafeteria who was really pretty but the biggest snob ever, she gave me a look like “Why the hell are you here?”
-However, the food in the cafeteria was pretty good, and I noticed a waffle iron there for breakfast! Yum!
-At Pepperdine, people were obligated to take religious classes and go to ‘Chapel,’ which they said wasn’t only Church of Christ, but I was a little skeptical. If you are Catholic, you should go to a Catholic school if you are interested in exploring your faith more; just my opinion.
-Pepperdine is more known for business & liberal arts degrees, I think it’s a great school if you are sure you’re gonna go to grad. school, but I do not think it’s a huge science school. If you want a great science school in a warm/tropical location go to University of Miami!
-Athletics at NDU are HUGEEE and at Pepperdine, they barely even spoke about their athletics program. I think they have a pretty good basketball program but they aren’t a huge athletics school.

I have yet to visit Notre Dame, but I really have never heard a negative comment from someone who went there or knows people who have gone there. It is a truly remarkable school!

I am Catholic and I love attending Pepperdine. About 30% of the student body is Catholic, making it the largest denomination. Our Lady of Malibu is right across the street from campus, and the university offers free shuttles to mass. Chapel is nondenominational, really. I just meant that the school itself has a more conservative feel than most Catholic universities.

If you’re going anywhere in L.A. in the middle of the day, it takes more than 30 minutes. But if you’re going at night, as I assumed the OP meant - a trip I have made numerous times - PCH is pretty empty.

I’m an irish student thinking of coming to pepperdine. Any tips for applying or what life is like?
