Notre Dame vs. UNC-Chapel Hill (CompSci)

I am trying to decide between these two schools that I was accepted to and would appreciate some guidance.

As of right now, I think I want to major in Computer Science. How do the programs at these two schools compare?

Also, I like a school that has a good community feel and outdoors culture. UNC is by far the largest school I applied to, and I’m worried that classes will be big/loss of community feel. In addition, I know that Notre Dame has some pretty strict rules on social atmosphere (parietals, zero tolerance on weed, sex after marriage). How truthful is the school’s “No Fun Notre Dame” reputation? How is the party scene at UNC?

I am looking for a school with a reputable computer science program which is up-to-date (the industry changes so quickly) and has good job placement. I know UNC has the research triangle, but do tech companies recruit from Notre Dame? Thanks!!

Congrats on two excellent offers!! I will comment on the community feel at UNC. The school is all about community- that is a huge draw to the school. From the town to the sports to the professors… It’s all there and the community feel is really overpowering. Congrats!

Let me say “congrats” as well. I am a ND grad, and I can definitely tell you that ND is all about community and the “ND family,” isn’t just a saying, it’s a way of life both on and off campus. I live in Texas, so the fact that I went to ND is always “something different.” UT has what? 60,000 students? TAMU has about the same. The best four years of my life were spent at ND, and if I had to choose all over again, I’d pick ND. Since ND is a national university, I have friends all over the country that I can call if I am ever in town. NYC, LA, Chicago, Miami, etc. While I was a student, it was common for classmates to get together in a dorm room, order pizza, and chat. There are plenty of parties at ND, especially home football weekends. I think the “no fun” reputation comes from the fact that there are no fraternities/sororities on campus, but I think that is a huge plus. Good luck with the process…
