@college1324 The Gateway website says “please be aware that due to the nature of the Gateway Program, students will not be eligible for institutional aid such as merit scholarships.” It really sucks. I was thinking that going to Gateway could save me money, but it’s looking like it’s going to cost more than my estimated cost at ND.
A Facebook group would be awesome! I’d definitely join. How many people were on the tour, and how was it? Did the other Gateway kids seem alright? I wish I could have made it to the tour, but graduation was the next day, and I live 14 hours by car from South Bend.
@wneely16 ahh I must’ve missed that on the website-thanks for letting me know. And yeah the Gateway price is pretty high and Holy Cross doesn’t even do the CSS profile so that eliminates more potential aid… And there were actually only 2 other students on the tour with me- I was really surprised! I met with former gateway students though and they were awesome and spoke really highly of the program! I feel really confident with my decision to join gateway! And I emailed Brian (the Holy Cross Gateway director) and asked about reaching out to other gateways to join the Facebook page I’ll be making, so hopefully he gets back to me tomorrow
@swimgirl1 nope, my admissions counselor said it’ll likely be open for the next couple weeks still. We’re just planning ahead in case the waitlist doesn’t work out!
@wneely16 I’ve called ND a couple of times inquiring about the gateway program. They said we have to apply for financial aid, and then will receive our packet. We are in the process of doing that now.
I’d suggest you call ND admissions and speak with an admissions counselor. They’ve been very helpful, patient and super excited for my daughter and the gateway program. I continue to be impressed with the friendliness and patience these ND ad-counsellors are, bc I’m certain their getting a zillion calls per day!!
They also said accepting or declining the gateway program has absolutely no bearing of being on the waitlist. Meaning your waitlist status will not change. ND said they plan to take more kids from the WL, and seemed to project a ray of hope in that the gateway acceptance means ND wants these kids very much.
We are not certain what to do about gateway, if my daughter does not get in freshman year. Kinda taking one step at a time–5/31 we may commit, then go see HC in June–before making it 100% final. There’s been no time thus far with her graduation festivities.
So-I do think more kids are going to get ND calls, and I’m very much praying for my daughter to end up where God wants her to be. And we are really hoping and praying its ND. Must admit, this has not been an easy road–but I’m sure we will one day look back and see Gods hand in all of this crazy process.
Much of luck to all!!! & keep posting-the comments are really very helpful.
@domerhopeful Since I got my Gateway invitation, I’ve tried to call and E-mail myself, and I had my dad call this morning, but no response yet… I’m sure they’re extremely busy, and I’m staying patient. No worries, though. I can definitely agree that in all my past interactions with Admissions, everyone has been very friendly and polite.
As of 7:03 PM today, the waitlist is closed. They’ve reached the number of students that they need.
I’m really sorry for all of you guys who didn’t make it/didn’t get Gateway. I’ll be keeping all of you in my thoughts and praying that you’ll all eventually be happy where you end up – or that you’ll have the best of luck with next year’s transfer apps.
Best of luck to everyone here! Even though this is tough, and I’m in the same boat as you guys, remember that “where you go is not who you’ll be.”
Did you get any sort of confirmation from ND? I clicked Yes and filled out the form and everything and haven’t gotten a single word from ND yet– starting to get worried I accidentally clicked no!
@yankees35 Someone in the Gateway Groupme was complaining about the same thing… I don’t think they’ve sent out any confirmation yet. I haven’t confirmed yet, so I can’t say.
Also, if anyone who got Gateway wants to be added to our FB page and Groupme, shoot me a private message.
Thank you for agreeing to remain on our waiting list. The Committee on Admissions is grateful for your patience. Our office received a record number of applications this year, with 19,500 students applying for positions in our First Year Class. Consequently, this year was our most selective ever, which has made our efforts more challenging than usual. We now know that our class has reached our enrollment goal for fall 2016. Thus, I am sorry to report that we cannot offer admission to you this year.
I just noticed on the website that “some students who are not offered admission from the waitlist, will be invited to the Gateway Program in mid-May and will have until June 15 to confirm their participation.” This is different from what the E-mail I received says, which was that I have until May 31 to decide, and I also vaguely remember the website saying May 31 - so it could have been changed recently. Can anyone confirm that the June 15 date is correct? Have they sent anything out stating that June 15 is the new date??
Also, 2 new visit dates have been added on the Gateway website (June 3 and June 10). I’m going to the June 3 date, though it’s quite a drive. Very exciting! If anyone else will be at the June 3 date, send me a PM.
I plan on calling first thing tomorrow morning to confirm the June 15 date. I hope and assume that it’s June 15, as the financial aid is still on its way.
My son and I are flying out June 1…he also got offered gateway…my name is joe esposito and my email address is jespo39@optonline.net…interested in your thoughts
