Hi everyone! I am beginning this discussion for all of the students who are still awaiting their final decisions from Notre Dame after being placed on the waitlist for the class of 2022. I am a current freshman at Notre Dame who was admitted off of the waitlist, so I am happy to help as much as I can!
So I guess I’ll be the first to say that I was waitlisted to Notre Dame for the Class of 2022. As you could expect, I’m feeling a confusing mix of frustration and optimism at the same time. I was also waitlisted at WUSTL last week, which was another bummer
As for my stats, I’m a white, Roman Catholic male from northern New Jersey who attends a competitive public magnet school.
SAT: 1500 (770CRW, 730M)
SAT II: 780 Literature, 770 US History
ACT: 34 (36R, 36E, 34S, 31M)
GPA: 95.62/100 (unweighted)
I’m captain of the cross-country and track teams, and hold a number of other leadership positions in extracurriculars.
Good luck to everybody who’s been put on the waitlist. It’s going to be a slog until we all find out, but at least we can commiserate together!
I was waitlisted as well (white female from NY)
SAT: 1580 (800 M, 780 CRW)
GPA: 96.5/100
10 AP classes
Rank: Top 6% of high school
President of Tri-M national music honor society and a few other clubs
First chair cello/Area-All State participant in addition to numerous other ECs
Other decisions: (Accepted: Case Western, UMichigan, Villanova, U of Rochester, SUNY Binghamton, UMass Amherst honors college, Fordham, Boston University… Rejected from Northwestern/Hopkins/UNC Chapel Hill)
Notre Dame is my TOP choice… does anyone have tips on getting accepted off the waitlist/showing interest?
Also, does clicking yes to the “information about transferring” button affect anything?
Thanks in advance and good luck to everyone else waiting intensely!
@bandathlete157 Let your frustration and optimism drive your perseverence to get off the waitlist!
@cbjs44 My biggest suggestion would be to contact your admissions counselor. It seems (from previous CC threads and other students that I have spoken with) that the students who show interest are the ones who get off of the waitlist at ND. When I was put on the waitlist, I came up with a list of ways to show my interest in ND. This included emailing my admissions counselor regular updates, calling my admissions counselor, sending a handwritten card to his office, and having a friend of ND send another letter of recommendation to my counselor. I also sent an email containing a letter of intent towards at the end of April.
In regard to selecting if you want to receive information about transferring, I believe I selected yes. However, I don’t think that this information will affect your admissions decision.
Congratulations on your acceptance to the other schools! It looks like you’ll end up at a great school regardless of what happens.
Hey guys!! I was waitlisted as well. 33 ACT, 4.43 GPA (out of 4) and a lot of extraciriculars, service, and leadership as I’m sure all of you have. I was deferred REA so I am feeling so done with all of this waiting. However, Notre Dame remains my top school and I’m going to do everything in my power to try and get off the dreaded waitlist. Looking forward to these months of waiting together and best of luck to everyone! Hey at least we didn’t get straight up rejected like a lot of other people.
I was waitlisted for Notre Dame’s class of 2022. I’m actually pretty stoked that I wasn’t rejected, even though getting off the waitlist is a long shot (: I’m a half-Asian half-white male at a public school in Northwest Indiana.
Stats:
SAT: 1540 (800 Math 740 English)
ACT: 34 (36 English 33 everything else)
GPA: 3.8UW 4.39W
12 AP classes
Rank: School doesn’t rank but I should be ~5%
Activities:
French Club co-president
Summer program in France
TEAMS engineering competition 2nd in state
A few others but these are my most significant ones
When would it be best to start contacting the admissions office? I won’t have all my other decisions until the end of this month, but I doubt I have a shot at any of them. Notre Dame is my top choice, but I’m worried about cost being an issue.
Hello! I was waitlisted, obviously. I am just happy that I was not rejected, but the uncertainty kills me! I was deferred from Harvard EA, so I feel like God is definitely trying to teach me patience! Currently writing my LOCI… any tips? Notre Dame has been my dream my whole life, and I am thankful to even be considered.
Some stats:
SAT: 1470
SATII: I took Math 1 and Spanish and didn’t do amazing but didn’t do terribly on either… I don’t remember exact scores

9 AP, all 4’s and 5’s
Lots of volunteering at my church, summer study abroad in Spain through IU, NHS, DM exec, cross country, track, math club, that sort of thing
LOTS of demonstrated interest in ND, but no legacy or hook
Just so thankful to be in the running!!

I got accepted to BU and wait-listed at BC
My son was wait-listed last year. We did submit additional material and contacted the area admission representative. Then my son got in. You need your school consular writes letter again. Good luck.
From Common Data Set 2016 - 2017:
Number of qualified applicants offered a place on the waiting list: 1,796
Number accepting a place on the waiting list: 743
Number of wait-listed students accepted: 85.
@TheBurbs While a meaningful LOCI is highly recommended, there is no stringent negative causal relation the way presented in your posting. Calls to accepted applicants from the waiting list will go out shortly after May 1st, so you have another two weeks or so to communicate your strong ND commitment, if this should indeed be the case. Good luck!
My son has been waitlisted and Notre Dame is his dream school. He has been accepted at 17 schools and has been awarded over $1.6 million in merit aid including several full rides. We had realized that ND is a long shot financially but it is his dream school so he accepted a spot on the waitlist.
White male, Catholic high school in Indiana.
National Merit Scholar Finalist
SAT: 1540 (780CRW, 760M)
ACT: 34 (34R, 36E, 31S, 35M)
GPA: 4.43 (weighted) / 3.92 (unweighted)
9 APs - all 4s and 5s
170 service hours and lots of ECs
Good luck to everybody who’s been put on the waitlist!
If the waitlist doesn’t pan out, go to the best (and most affordable) school you were accepted to and attempt to transfer next year. If you are female, Saint Mary’s is an excellent option.
With stats like that…it’s really hard to believe he was waitlisted. You should be very proud of his accomplishments! My S is also in a similar situation with similar stats. He accepted a spot on the waitlist as well.
Hey guys, I was waitlisted too. ND is my top choice, and I have a few questions:
Do letters from important alumni help?
How often should I be contacting the admissions office (I sent a short letter to Bob Mundy and then two longer emails to my regional counselor so far)
Does it help that the only kid that got in from my high school (and my entire city as far as I know) withdrew his offer for admission?
For the people who got off the waiting list last year, when did you find out?
Also here is a basic run down of my application for those who are interested
Stats:
GPA: 99.6/100
9 AP classes, all 4’s and 5’s
Rank: 19/415
EC’s:
Lots of Community Service
Heavily involved in Youth and Government (state/national leadership and awards)
Varsity Swimming Captain, member of district record relay
NHS President
First Chair District Band, section leader in band, and involved in several school and community music groups
Debate club founder
A handful of other random clubs/ec’s and some state and local awards
I was also accepted at Boston College, U of Rochester, Pitt Honors, Penn State, and Fordham Rose Hill… I’ll probably go to Pitt or PSU if I don’t get pulled off the waiting list
Best of luck to everyone on the waiting list! Just keep praying, God knows what is best for you!
