Hi,
I am currently a junior in high school and I really want to go to Noreen Dame. I have great grades and I haven’t yet taken all my standardized tests (somewhat problematic). My extracurriculars and service are also pretty good. I was just wondering, does anyone have any advice for getting into Notre Dame that could help me? Any advice is welcome. Thank you!
Find something you’re passionate about! If you like science, take lots of science classes that your school offers. If you like politics, take history, economics, international relations, etc. Even if you’re involved, try not to spread yourself thin. Really engage in what you find interest in! Also, obviously take hard classes (might be a little late) and do well in them. You could also look into summer programs through universities where you can go there and act as a college student for a few weeks. I’ve talked to admission officers and they say that this is very appealing to them. Most importantly, do not try to sculpt yourself into the robot that you believe your college will want. Do what you want and do good in it. This will show them that you are unique and have a drive for something that will carry on into college.
Demonstrate interest by visiting, interviewing, emailing a rep if you have question that cannot be answered on the website. Top colleges would like to admit people who they think are going to come.
I’ve already visited and I have been emailing back and forth with an admissions counselor recently. Thank you!
That’s what I’ve been doing (taking hardest classes and ones I’m interested in). I haven’t found any summer programs unfortunately but I am definitely doing things related to what I want to major in (finance). I’m going to probably use 5 or 6 things on the common app for that and the rest for my service/volunteering. Do you recommend I do that or something different? Thank you!
EC, grades, service sound to be in order. Your best bet is doing very well on ACT or SAT – not sure SAT avg but ACT avg is about 34 – and trying to visit the school and speak with your admissions rep when you do. Good luck.
