Greetings,
Son has applied for Fall 2007 and FSU has his completed application. Does anyone know when the admissions web site gets updated on Nov 1st to see if he got accepted ? Is it just after midnight or later on in the morning ? Also, is the housing web site updated at the same time to allow him to put in his application for the Fall term ?

The email my son received on 11/1/2005 at 10:27am with his admission acceptance. I don't remember what time the website was updated. If your son is 18 he can apply for housing right away online. If not, you have to send in a form with the parents signature by mail. You receive an admission package in the mail shortly after 11/1. They wanted a $225 deposit for housing. Your son can apply for one of the living/learning communities as well.

I would strongly suggest you get up very early (6:00 AM is not too early at all) that day and check and see if it's in. As soon as you know - go directly to Housing and get that housing Priority Number. I'd check the day before, too.

Thanks,
He's hoping to get into the Honors Program too. He has the SAT and ACT scores to qualify, and according to his Bright Futures grade weighting, he has a 3.98 weighted high school grade point. Does anyone know if FSU Admissions uses the same weighting method as Bright Futures does ?

Also, as we understand it, if you get invited to apply for Honors you should put the Honors dorms as your first two housing choices and then two other dorms as your 3rd and fourth choice in case you don't get accepted ? Any suggestions for dorms 3 & 4 ?

The weighting method is 1.0 for AP/IB and .5 for honors/dual enrollment for his academic year courses. Bright Futures only weights .5. It sounds like your son will qualify for the honors program just fine since he needs a 3.9+ weighted GPA and 1300+ SAT.

Landis and Gilchrist are the honors dorms that are very nice suite style. There will be two new suite dorms next year Wildwood and DeGraff that you may consider. Broward is a suite style that does not have a living/learning community. The other suite style dorms require being selected for a living/learning community.

Sounds like your son could be earning college credits for his 650+ verbal ENC1101 or 690+ math MAC1105 SAT scores. They should send you a letter in the mail in mid-November letting you know if he qualified.

Also, late in November you should be receiving information if he was selected for the University scholarship of $9600 over four years. He has to maintain a 3.0+ GPA and take 28 credits in the fall and spring semesters to continue to receive the scholarship. This is on top of his Bright Futures FAS.

It does not sound like you have anything to worry about "worriedfsudad".

"Dad" became "worried Dad" when son discovered girls in his junior year and "A's" became "B's" !! Granted, most of his core courses were Honors or AP, but he could have done better. Steady, and smart girlfriend this year is so far helping his senior year shape up better with mostly AP classes again.

My youngest daughter, just now a freshman at Florida State, didn't bother to send in the Dual Enrollment transcripts from the junior collge where she received some advanced math credits. She reported the courses via her hs transcripts, after all. I didn't see it making much difference either, as she was admitted and so forth. Overkill, I thought, and didn't worry about it.

Well, FSU Admissions put a stop on her final admissions status until those transcripts came in officially. She subsequently got credit for the DE courses, which is to her advantage.

Bottom line - stay on top of all those details...Admissions apparently checks every such detail on all admitted students.

I've also heard that children of alumni get maybe a point, but that's it in terms of legacy help towards admissions. Have your son stay on top of the hs grades and all the associated details of admissions and housing.

Applicants are reportedly being held to higher standards, so leave nothing to chance.

My friend's son saw his admission notification at 1am this morning!
They are thrilled since FSU is his first choice.
Hope you had good news as well.

He'll probably get his first choice - as long as he doesn't try to room with someone who has a substantially higher number.

That number lasts all four years - assuming you want to stay in the dorms. So far, my older daughter (now a senior) has stayed almost all (except a summer) in the dorms. We looked at apts, but they just wern't worth being off-campus.

Orientations for first-year/lower-division (less then 60 earned credited hours) transfer students beginning school in the fall takes place during June and consists of a two-day program. Upper-division (more then 60 earned credit hours) must attend a one-day program held in July or August. You should visit the registration section of the Office of Orientation website after you have been admitted to see a list of available dates and select your session from those available. Remember to register/pay online to save your space for both the student and family members. Space during each session is limited and only reserved with payment. If you have questions, call the Office of Orientation at 850/644-2785.
