Nov ssat scores

Hi! My son is applying as a 9th grader and has an SSAT composite score of 81%. He had a 77% verbal, 79% math, and 77% reading. (Don't understand how composite can be higher than the three scores, oh well.) Anyway, he is applying to Blair, St/ George and Lawrenceville. Blair is by far his #1 choice. Any thoughts about the viability of this score at these three schools? Should he retake it in January? Thanks.

I think there's a 12/13 exam scheduled as well.

I did my exam in November, I just got my scores back(copy and pasted from the email)

I got the same total score that I did on my practice tests. On the math section I didn't know what sub set(or something like that) meant(A little definition)... I missed two because of that and one from a line definition. So I know what I need to work on.

Your SSAT Scores

Upper Level Score Range : 500-800

Verbal Score 794
(Personal Score Range: 773 - 800, SSAT Percentile 98%)

Math Score 794
(Personal Score Range: 773 - 800, SSAT Percentile 93%)

Reading Score 782
(Personal Score Range: 761 - 800, SSAT Percentile 99%)

Total Score 2370
(Personal Score Range: NA, SSAT Percentile 99%)

Average Grade: 10 Male

Verbal 661
Math 711
Reading 654

Yes there is. However, given his school exam and term paper schedule, sitting in December makes little sense. THe January test fits his schedule in a way that allows him to have a chance to focus and do some more prep instead of just swing up and taking it again. IN all honesty, how much can the grade really improve?

italianboarder - you have nothing to work on! Those are excellent scores and you should give it another thought. You're 99% total score. Improving your math score from 93% won't make a difference at all.

My son got his scores today too.

He is in 8th grade, applying for 9th.

Overall 94%, 2235

Verbal, 743, 90%
math, 776, 92%
Reading, 716, 91%

His scores are good, but we need financial aid/merit and I'm not sure the scores a considered goon enough for aid/merit. But this is all so new to me & I am totally out of my element -- Are the scores good enough for aid/merit?

He wants to apply to:
Exeter, St Paul's School, Lawrenceville, Peddie and George School (close to our home)

Italianboarder - that should be - You should NOT give it another thought! Great job!

All the scores above put you guys in the mix at the schools you are interested in. Now, it comes down to the what else you can offer, essays, teacher recs and interviews.

My son did NOT get his scores today because the school where he took the test only bothered to put the materials into the pre-paid FedEx envelope the the ssatb gives them and into the mail YESTERDAY! (I called ssat when they didn't come to find out what the problem was.) Not only were they having an open house on the day of the test, the held on to the completed tests for a week! I'm not happy.

And Italian - congrats! great work. Don't take it again. If you send this score and later send another that is slightly higher it will only make you look neurotic! (and maybe a little insecure :) )

I got mine today as well!

Your SSAT Scores

Upper Level Score Range : 500-800

Verbal Score 800
(Personal Score Range: 779 - 800, SSAT Percentile 99%)

Math Score 773
(Personal Score Range: 752 - 794, SSAT Percentile 90%)

Reading Score 782
(Personal Score Range: 761 - 800, SSAT Percentile 99%)

Total Score 2355
(Personal Score Range: NA, SSAT Percentile 99%)

Should I retake them to get my math score up? I'm currently a freshman, applying for sophmore year.

Notmin,

The scores are great. There's not much difference between a 94 and a 99. really The only reason I would do it again is if he thought is essay was REALLY bad. Relax, log on to your ssat manage account page, fill in the school codes and cross "SSAT" off your application to-do list.

Ok, this is weird. My D scored 15 percentile points lower on the November test as compared to the October test. And after the test, she said the November one seemed easier.

Is there some possibility that her test was mis-scored? Or maybe she skipped a question and started marking on the wrong row. Is there any sort of way to ask that it be re-scored?

Or does this kind of thing happen all the time?

I'm perplexed.

melissaax225 - Same message to you. Your scores are great! 99% overall. Don't retake. Work on writing the best applications you can. Congrats!

My scores:

Your SSAT Scores

Upper Level Score Range : 500-800

Verbal Score 785
(Personal Score Range: 764 - 800, SSAT Percentile 99%)

Math Score 794
(Personal Score Range: 773 - 800, SSAT Percentile 99%)

Reading Score 716
(Personal Score Range: 695 - 737, SSAT Percentile 91%)

Total Score 2295
(Personal Score Range: NA, SSAT Percentile 99%)

Should I retake them to improve the reading score?? Also, I think I did pretty suckish on the essay, should I retake the SSAT to do a better job on that or let it go?? Thanks!

Let it go! Like the others, lollipopluvr, your scores are great!

I've got my AP Stats teacher writing a recommendation... BUT today he actually got an alergic reaction today and I heard he was pulled into an ambulance. So ya... I don't have his but everyone else is good to go.

I'm staying at a friend's house for 9 days and when he is at work(No school for me) I'm going to complete my essays, short answers and all those other things. That will be thanksgiving... And I gave my teachers all the recommendation forms today. I know my interviews were solid... Exeter was the worst. Lasted 35 minutes and I had 3 hours of sleep in the past 48 hours(Flight problems, and a death in the family right before it). I want to get into Exeter the most... So I've lost some sleep over it, but I'm still confident =)

If you got an overall score in the 90's, even if one section was lower, I don't see the point in working hard just to raise one section. I believe that your time would be better spent on essays, interviews, following up to make sure that all of your teachers have their recommendation forms, etc.

There are plenty of people with overall scores in the high 90s, where one section was a lot lower, that still got into great schools. Trust me, I know!

OP -- Those scores are good for Blair. I suspect that they are good for your other 2 schools, but it's a guess on my part. Usually you can find the average SAT scores for a school on its website. You can take the projected SAT score from your child's SSAT, and see if s/he is in the range.

The composite % score can be higher than each individual score because some test takers have large gaps in their scores leading to a lower % composite.

Oh, to correct my above post, my D got 15 percentile points lower on the math part. She actually did much better on the verbal and reading in November. And oddly, she did the same on the more advance math (algebra, geometry, etc.). So the 15 percentile point decline came entirely in the basic math (number concepts and operations). This seems very strange, to me.

and to think i was satisfied with a 83rd percentile ...

I got
99% verbal
89% Math
86% reading

overall 97%

I'm applying as a junior to hotchkiss, deerfield, exeter, and andover.
should i retake?
