Your math is outstanding, but you might want to retake the test to try and get higher on verbal and reading to give you a better shot at those schools.

8th grade female...
verbal score: 72%
math score: 92 %
reading score: 90%

overall's 87%

applying for andover, exeter, st paul's...........

Gabo, is English your first language? If so, than I'd consider retaking - purely from a verbal standpoint.

Gabo,

I agree with the others. retake it, cause frankly, verbal skills are more important than math. that's why there are more parts on the test dealing with verbal problems. but props on the math part

My SSAT Score:
Verbal 60% - Math 89% - Reading 97%. Overall 91%.
I'm kinda worried 'coz of my verbal score. Since I'm international and my first language is NOT english, will this verbal hurt my application? Thanks for any comments!!

Congrats on your other two scores, they're pretty good. While 60th percentile may not seem so good, it actually is an ok score for the SSAT. What schools are you applying to, because depending on what schools you are applying to you might want to retake the SSAT to try and boost up your verbal.

It being your second language I think they would understand. Your overal is in the 90's which is great in its own sense.

Well yeah, I mean having English as a second (or third or fourth) language should surely make them more lax about the verbal standard.

And the fact that you managed to obtain such a fantastic reading score in your second language is truly fantastic - props, buddy!

I wonder how much a bad SSAT score hurts an application that's otherwise great (grades, EC's, personality)?

not much. you have to really define "bad" though. here bad has ranged from 30th (i've seen 6th and 9th percentiles too, but that was only for one unidentified person :P) to 89th (because it didn't make 90th)

Thanks. By "bad" i meant less than 80th percentile, specifically 30th to around 60th.

weeble, I would think it would depend a lot on the school. Some are more focused on it that others.

Mmmm, I got
Verbal: 99 percentile
Math: 77 percentile
Reading: 93 percentile
Total: 95 percentile

Wil they look at my total or each individual score? And is this good enough for MIlton/Andover/Exeter

xoogabyxoo: you did very well! do NOT stress out about your scores! Your scores are fine for the schools you mentioned....not that they guarantee anything of course. Good luck!

My 8th grade son did poorly 40th percentile. He is horrified as he has never done so poorly on a standardized test (score was 1911). Does anyone know what pomfret ssat average is?

First of all, the SSAT is a very hard standardized test because so many qualified candidates take the test. Don't be worried if your son did badly the first time. Many people retake the test in January, and his score could go up much higher. I would say that the average for Pomfret is in the mid to late 60's, although I cannot say this for a fact.

Hey u guys
How do you get 99% for verbal
I find it impossible
For my pratice tests I got like 700/800
What percentile would that be?

SSAT Score

I took the SSAT last Nov. and Dec. and got

Nov.
Verbal: 77%
Math: 99%
Reading: 78%
Total: 89%

Dec.
Verbal: 94%
Math: 99%
Reading: 78%
Total: 95%

The total percentile for the December one is not bad at all but i was worrying about my reading comprehensions cause I heard that schools also look into EACH subject percentiles.

I had a lot of improvements for verbal but not at all for reading.

I am applying for Andover and Saint Paul's and do anyone have any idea whether or not
this will have negative effect on my application process??

BTW I am currently attending school in the U.S., but since I need an I-20 visa, I will be considered in the international student quartile.... What should I get as an international student????

Thank you!

95% is great don't worry about it. I would say international student just has to be in the 90's probably to stand a chance. But ya...your good dont worry about it.

Hi helpoutman, I'm an international applicant and I'm in the same boat with you. My overall percentile is good (to me), but while my Math and Reading was 89% and 97%, my verbal is only 60%. I posted it on here a while ago stating that English is my second language, and the response was "the schools will understand". How long have you been studying in the US? If longer than 2 years then I suppose they will assume your ability just as domestic applicants...
