NOV. TEST B: Writing Thread

Just want to start a discussion regarding the writing section.

For sentence improvement:

turtles in adulthood: i put ...., resulting in venturing...

Binoculars was D or E, the one which says can be viewed from long distance using binoculars.

Air problem: i put were its air not

panther question: because it said more, i put "than that of" idiom more...than

The penguin: not sure, i think i put are because the sentence was in past tense?

the child like one: i think i put s-v agreement "C", "is" should be "are"

figs: the answer was B, it

No error

I had three no errors total. Anyone get any more?

10 minute WR

What did you guys get for the sunset, i put more beautiful, but i think its most beautiful, but it sounded wrong.

Did you guys put D or E: "author's name, book, offered..."

dioms, either/or, neither/nor, stupid stuff like that. Something with the word between... I don't know. I skipped a few on that last section.

for capable for explaining satisfaction .. i knew there was something wrong with it so i settled for: able to explain to our satisfaction :s

LMFAO at japanese girl's birthday
are you talking about
An exceptional cook, Tyler brought whatever (it was like assortment of delicious food) to mitsuko's birthday party. you needed to put Tyler after the first part otherwise you would be calling the food a delicious cook. LOL

bird watcher one was like
the birdwatchers were able to watch birds (from long distances) using binoculars
and i forgot the shorebirds question but it does sound familiar

"were able to explain to our satisfaction"

the other answer choices were to wordy and awkward like capable of explaining...

If you could remember the air question in more detail and the choices I would tell you what I put. I really don’t think what you have is right, but it is possible.
The panther question I was torn between the answer you put and “compared to.”
Pretty certain yours was the correct one there.
Those were the two most difficult in the section if i remember right.

on the panther question, if it said more, then the “than that of” would be correct…not “compared to”

do you remember what the sentence #29 was ??

yeah futball 29. was comparing paintings at the exhibit …and so critics…

people thought the error was (and so critics), but according to Silverturtle and Erica Meltzer’s guide if there is no comma before and (,and), then the subject (IT) CANNOT be repeated in the second clause: and so critics…

The answer was then no error.

For the air question: It was Peru mountains would not be inhabitable were its air not…

I thought its like the hypothetical past (Were functions as hypothetical past: If…, would), the sentence was in past tense so the other choice (…is) would not work?

Do you agree with my other answers though?

I had three No errors, first one on the first page of sentence error ID, second one on the second page, and the third one was 29.

Oh… for number 9, before the Peru air question dealing with fish and gills or something like that did you get the answer: (,resulting in venturing…)

For the fixing passage questions about the Ape painting or drawing: tell me if you remember any of these answers.

Combining sentence: C or D (most likely D) saying that artists gave paintbrush, color, paint, apes…

Replacing it: Whether IT thought was debatable.

I said to replace it with It—>Artists thinking it was art.

Inserting the sentence after sentence 1,

I said to start the sentence with Actually,…

I put A, the one talking about whether or not Apes could actually paint…

Bummpp did anyone have form B!!!

I have very similar answers to yours

thanks SirDan

Panther question answer is “than do”. The comparison is between actions, something about producing I think, and therefore the comparison must indicate this.

strom23, yes I was wrong and it is than do. Thanks for pointing this out, is everything else in a general agreement.

Another writing question was about the sunset, it was more… not most.

I think its “nevertheless” for like 34. and that it is “apes can create” for like 32

yes i agree with you for apes can create, but nevertheless, i think is wrong because there is no comparison. I think the best answer is Afterall.

reason its nevertheless is because if i remember correctly (correct me if im wrong), was that the previous two sentences were something along the lines of “Some people think ape art is cool. Other people think ape art sucks. Nevertheless, ape art still has value on the market”

I don’t really remember the sentences before, but what you said is right, then yes I am wrong. Nevertheless will work perfectly for the sentence.

Hey everyone,

Though I now think 29 for writing may be no error, I just wanted to see how many people marked an error and how many people didn’t for 29. It was the painting one in spotting the error.
