Now i know the US News ranked them 9th, but im just curious how it would stack up to other schools not ranked in the same category and above all do students there enjoy it/find that it looked great on a job resume/ offered hands on learning or studying abroad. Looking more specifically into mechanical engineering, does anyone know if that is good there or does Nova specialize in some other form of engineering. If you could answer those questions i would really appreciate it :)

Villanova has a fine engineering program. I believe it offers mechanical, electrical, civil and chemical engineering degrees at the undergraduate and graduate levels, with a Ph.D. in chemical engineering.

I can't say anything specific about mechanical engineering; I would guess chemical engineering is the strongest of the four departments, but that might not mean anything at the undergraduate level. With that USNWR ranking, a Villanova engineering degree is going to look fine on a resume and most of the major corporations recruit on campus. Clearly, you'll be in better shape applying to AT&T or Ford with a 3.8 GPA than a 2.3.

The university has an active study abroad program and many students take advantage of it. Is that also true of engineering students? I can't say. My impression has been that the engineering students at Villanova have always been among the hardest working and most committed of the undergraduates. That might mean more of them go overseas to buff their resumes -- or it might mean they're afraid to lift their eyes from their calculators (used to be slide rules in my day) for fear of losing ground.
