Nova or Tulane?

yeah jayhawk, since you just transferred to tulane, you want to make yourself feel better by 'lmao'-ing everything i say.

and i don't even know where you get your information, but 1/3 of tulane's student body is not from nj/ny/pa.

http://www.tulane.edu/~registra/figs/ensu/063/prfun063.shtml

it says 19.83% are from the northeast, which includes states such as maryland, connecticut, massachusetts, etc. and too bad 19.83% isn't even a third.

so in conclusion, lmao and lmfao to you my friend.

also, keep in mind the peer assessment scores for each school. if you don't know, peer assessment is where the top people of academics such as presients, provosts & deans are asked to rate peer schools' academic programs on a scale from 1 to 5.

tulane: 3.4
villanova: 4.3

other schools with similar ratings? dartmouth (4.4), washu (4.1), rice (4.1), emory (4.0), georgetown (4.1), carnegie mellon (4.2).

definitely tulane. It is more well known for academics than villanova. Plus, it is a bigger school and I hear the parties there are amazing.

This forum is ridiculous. HarnessYourHopes, dont base your decision on what other people tell you here. Everyone from Tulane is going to tell you to go to Tulane, everyone from Nova is goign to tell you to go to Nova. Honestly, which school do you like better, thats what it comes down too. If you want some constructive information about the philosophy program at Nova (because I go there), i'll be happy to give it to you, but im not going to sit on this forum and waste my time arguing "prestige".

tulane, no question about it...much better known

Yeah, by prestige I didn't really mean how many people know the name of the school. I mean, I consider Ponoma prestigious yet im guessing "people in NJ" haven't heard of that one either. I really just wanted to know if one was academically much stronger than the other.
KB, that is exactly the kind of info I need. I'd really appreciate any info you can give me on the 'Nova PHL Dept.

yes tulane definitely is a much stronger academic school by a longshot

Tulane!!!!!!!!!! for sure an what is my screen name Tulane!!!!!!!!
"PENNhunter

The aspirant: You cannot compare peer assesment scores across college types because PA scores are just that: PEER assesment scores. The top schools in the National U. grouping (Harvard, Yale, Penn, Cornell etc.) are MUCH stronger than the top schools in the comp. bachelors grouping (Stonehill, Simon's Rock, Elmira)...So despite the fact that Stonehill and Rice both have absolute PA scores of 4.1, that number is relative to their grouping. So, comparing Nova PA to that of top U.s is statistically unsound.

look @ the test scores of tulane students compared to villanova ones, that speaks for itself...tulane is way better

Per Collegeboard 2006 Data

Villanova:

43% admission rate
22% in-state, 78% OOS
SAT Verbal Midrange: 570-670
SAT Math Midrange: 610-700

Tulane:

38% admission rate
22% in-state, 78% OOS
SAT Verbal Midrange: 610-725
SAT Math Midrange: 610-700

From a quick glance, it would seem that these schools are far more similar in academic quality than they are different. When things are this close and there is no clear winner with regards to quality (prestige is subjective), you should be focusing on fit and what these places have to offer. Make a sheet listing the pros and cons of each of these schools.

yep, tulanes are much much higher!! you only have 1 sat thats right at 700, while ours are both 700 and above!!...TULANE RULES!!!

lol I can't tell if that's sarcasm or not. I'm going to hope it is.

nope tulane is way better!

You also have to consider the fact that Villanova is considered a regional Master's-level university, while Tulane is a top-50 national doctoral-level university. Regarding their admissions standards, U.S. News considers Villanova "more selective," while Tulane is "most selective."

I'm not much on the prestige game, either -- it's fit that matters -- but to say Villanova is better known is just silly, in my opinion.

i agree 110% roughwinds!! TULANE IS BETTER!!

Jayhawk, I really don't appreciate you going on here and slandering a school. If you have an opinion that is fine, but I am just trying to get some info on two schools I am choosing between, and you kinda you're kinda trashing the thread just because you have a bias. Come on, man.

im not trying to trash anything man, you asked for our opinion on which one is a better school between the two; and i said tulane!

Well, you kinda said "nova sucks" on the tulane forums, then followed it to the Nova forum started an argument on sports, and called it a community college. I'd rather just focus on the positives of both schools and stick to academics.

i am from california. i have only heard of tulane. two of my friends went there. one loves it. the other one transferred out-too much partying for her. if i was you, i would follow the money-tulane!
