i am so lost with college decisions. I dunno if Villanova is for me. At my school ( 40min from villanova) it seems like everyone has a negative vibes of Villanova and its rubbing off on me. Anyone relate?

Maybe living 40 minutes from Nova means everyone is so used to the school. We live 4 hours away and it seems like everyone wants to go to Nova. I think 30 kids from my D's school applied and about 20 of them REALLY want to go. I'd like to know any negative vibes about Nova. My D thinks it's the only school for her.

i think the only negative vibe ive been getting is the "white and privileged" aspect of the student body. however, i think thats rampant among east coast private schools and not just at nova. also, i think the name really helps that along. villanova kind of looks like "vanilla" and vanilla is white. what i mean is that its an easy target. g-town, penn, swarthmore, george washington, nd, bc, etc are all just as white as nova.

from what i can see, the schools comparable to nova arent any less white or priviledged.

obviously its been offputting because im the opposite of the stereotypical privileged kid, but ive already made major connections in the area that will probably help me for the rest of my life and in my (hopefully) future career. that will probably be the one thing that makes nova my top choice (if i get accepted).

ive thought about the good and the bad, so if you have any more questions ill be happy to answer/think about it. im kind of trying to make a pros and cons list at the moment.

Timothy's Monster--I couldn't agree with you more! The east coast schools are so similar-white, privileged etc. My problem is that my D needs some diversity b/c she is so used to the "white privileged bubble".
She feels safe and secure in that environment but it's not what real life is. As a parent, I want her to feel safe in this crazy world today but I am torn. Thanks for your input.

That's really funny because I attend An augustinian prep school about 1 hour from villanova in NJ, that is actually owned by villanova. I guess because everyone takes for granted that they can get in there, they begin to despise the school and not want to attend. I'm not sure if that is the same situation that you are in, beachgal. I on the other hand, happen to really like the school. My school offers a full-ride scholarship to the top applicant each year so I guess it works out to an advantage for me, since most of the top students at my school won't be applying.
