November 2008 SAT Critical Reading

renowened…judiciousness?

i had trouble between picking notorious/sophistry and something/discrimination. it said he was able to discern between the problems so he had discrimination: the power of making fine distinctions.

ugh…i failed CR anyways…

Yeah, I think I ultimately went with discernment…gah, idk

it was Noted/discrimation
he was noted for his discrimination, able to pick out the nuances something of that sort

hmm for that wrongheaded/chicanery one i put
misguided/remonstrance…

did anyone else get that? it seemed like it worked…

chicanery, to me, didnt make sense in that context

^i think i put that. but why do i keep thinking “judiciousness” was an answer choice?!?!?
Lol, which 750+ CR scorer here should i trust?

^
I was stuck between those two too, but I had a vague idea that chicanery meant something like “trickery” so I went with the first…

yea i put noted/discrimination…

i also put misguided/remonstrate but thats wrong. i was gonna put wrongheaded/chicanery tho. o well.

I was hoping to be a 750+ CR scorer… but now it’ll take a bit of luck for that to happen. I’m still hanging on to 800’s in M and W though… so far.

What were the four answers for the comics passage?

  1. passage 2 elaborates on passage 1
  2. author of passage 1 talks of his experiences
  3. author of passage 2 thinks that art should be accepted
    4.

it wasnt paralell/disparity

paralllel assumes that both lived the same lives and they didnt (one was poor the other wealthy)

thats why its antithetical/whatever it was that meant different

those vocabs. were beast!

i hated the comics passage. ok, it was either passage 2 supported passage 1’s claim or passage 2 elaborated on passage 1…

so we agree antithetical? thats what I put.

ya what was misplaced/unsavory?

negative connotations came into my head when i saw discriminating, so i knocked it out… i feel like an idiot now… oh well

what woult a 15/19 vocab and a 44/48 (no omit) be for this CR? hopefully 700??

I honestly thought vocab was easy. There were some where the sentences were a little unclear, like the neurophysist (can’t spell). But I knew the meaning of all the words…I guess I just lucked out.

Peytoncline- it wasn’t discriminating, it was discerning. discerning has a much better connotation

i agree with antithetical/…

it makes more sense. parallel implies similarity

Parallel:
having the same direction, course, nature, or tendency; corresponding; similar; analogous
