November 2008 SAT Critical Reading

Wrongheaded/chicanery was right, I believe.

how about the one with notorious.,… sophistry. was that the right answer?

^ i dont think so?
for the mozart sc, why is it correct as is? I just thought that putting a colon was inappropriate u needed to put a semicolon?

that’s what I got, bluewatermelon

Wait no, was discernment an answer?

oh good. i think its right because the question was about him being able to manipulate people

EDIT: i don’t want to cite the question exactly because i don’t want to get DQ’d!

I remember I had notorious . . . sophistry as an answer, but it’s not looking like others did

I also had notorious and sophistry.

Sophistry isn’t right, it means sophisticated, like a Sophist in Greece.

I got an 800 CR in June and felt like this was way harder. The vocabulary was a huuuuuuuuge b1tcH.

Hmm, sophistry - subtly deceptive reasoning or argumentation.

I reasoned that he was notorious because he used sophistry.

hm… what were the answer choices for the notorious…sophistry question?
i dont remember whether i put that or not i was either between that answer or another one.

or should i say-what was the question?lol

I think I put answer A for the notorious…sophistry question
I believe the first word was renowned…

Sophistry does NOT mean sophistication… it’s more like subtle trickery, thus why someone would be renowned for sophistry in negotiations or whatever.

sophistry doesn’t mean sophisticated, it means slyly manipulative…

it was something about a kid being able to use good judgment…so i put the one with “judicious”.probably wrong thouh, but notorius just doesnt sound right-the kid was doing a good thing.

eevann is right. i believe it is renowned…discerning or something like that.

Discerning was a SC, but it was on a question about using a telescope to see other galaxies…

Notorious/sophistry seems to work for me.

yeah my main problem was with the connotation of the first word
the connotation of notorious just didn’t feel right

What was the other choices for the sophistry/notorious question? Does anyone know the answer?
