November 2009 - Biology (E/M)

Someone answer me!!

The PR practice tests were 100% accurate! CB copied at least 5 questions from PR’s 2nd practice test. I was so happy haha.

that should’ve been the right answer, as secondary sex traits have nothing to do with homeostasis

For the blastula question, I stated that the nucleus of the cell retained all genes to develop into a larvae.

For the insect light question, I stated the highest energy light insects can see is UV light -remembered from Honors Bio 3 years ago =0

For the Hawaiian Island question, I stated it was the diversity of plant species that had the least to do with the development of the 3 Drisophila mosquito species.

Anyone agree or disagree?

fadhd2

i agree w u on blastula about 95 percent sure
i agree on uv insect question about 85 perc sure
and th question abt drosophila species, i said that the least was the one about the flies living on a hot place of mantle or something. im 60% sure cuz its the only answer that produces no variation within the population

hezziegrl - for the question about the trophic energy being lost vs. herbivore food containing more energy … i chose the herbivore’s food contains more energy than carnivores because that is certainly true as its food is lower in the period and therefore higher in energy. i did not choose the trophic energy being lost because it was phrased ‘MOST’ of the energy is lost as at each trophic level, and it is not MOST but rather only 10% of the energy. idk if thats the correct answer or logic though.

Actually, 90% of the energy is lost at each trophic level, which is most of the energy. Does anyone remember question #86?

wait so i chose that the hot plate was the reason for the hawaiian question who else chose that? besides the people that have already said what they chose

anyone get tripped up about the one with one ribose, one adenine, and one phosphate?

i was thinking between nucleotide and RNA?

cause it says one… and a single nucleotide could have ribose, adenine, and phosphate
but RNA consists of ribose, adenine, and phosphate

The directions say that you must pick the best answer choice. A nucletoide can consist of one adenine, one phosphate, and either a ribose or a deoxyribose sugar. However, RNA must contain a ribose sugar. Thus, RNA is the correct answer.

How much would one have to miss (or not miss) to get an 800 with Biology E?

i think (generally speaking) if you get a 77 you can still get an 800 but it also depends on the curve a bit

Hey if you missed 5 questions do you still think i have a chance of a score greater than 750???

PLZZZZZZZZZZ ANSWER imFREAKING OUT!!! also cud someone tell me what is good sat bio score for the 7 year medical program?

its nucleotide, there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY RNA has 1 phosphate as it is considered a polymer

sierra i believe anything above 730 is good

Well, it’s obvious that the ribose question was a terrible one.

The ribose, adenine, and phosphate group question has TWO correct answers, but only ONE BEST answer.
-Nucleotide
-RNA = best answer, as it is more specific than plain nucleotide which may apply to both RNA and DNA

By the way, why wouldn’t RNA have a phosphate group? That would be one screwed up RNA molecule.

NVM, I am probably wrong about it being RNA since it has to be just ONE of each.

What is the general consensus on the Hawaii question?
Was speciation NOT a result of many plant species on the island, the island being on a hotspot, or the volcanic mantle answer?

I now think its the volcanic mantle because mosquitoes lay their eggs on plants and feed on plant nectars and juices (many plant species–>more mosquito species). Also, a hotspot is a place of biodiversity, so that lends itself to speciation as well.
