November 2010 CHEMISTRY Discussion Thread

Fire awaY!
I'll wait until the embargo lifts.

But we can discuss the difficulty right? I thought it was pretty easy- excepting a few questions all were pretty straightforward.

Yeah, I guess it wasn’t very difficult.

I left 5 questions though.

What is the curve generally like? Will I get a 800 after leaving 5 questions and say getting 4-5 wrong answers?

You left five questions ani? 2 wrong generally means you’re off an 800. The curve is different from the one in Barron’s. It’s more like the one in Sparknotes. Didn’t you do the official collegeboard practice tests?

I got 5 or 6 (I’m not exactly sure) questions wrong with zero omit in June and I got a 750.

Quite easy, I hope for 800.
Many B answers :P

Yeah, loads of bubbles in the same column.

For those who took a previous Chemistry test, was there a lot of overlap between this one and past tests?

Yeah, that’s true! I think I got 4 C’s in a row or something

Well, leaving 5 and getting 2 wrong gives me a 800? :S

*an 800 _

[SparkNotes: SAT Chemistry: Scoring the SAT II Chemistry](<a href=“SparkNotes: Today's Most Popular Study Guides”>SparkNotes: Today's Most Popular Study Guides)

There are 85 questions.
Getting up to 79 raw score guarantees a perfect 800!

2 wrong, no omit= last cutoff for 800 in the official collegeboard curve if I remember correctly. I did them in June, got them from the library but I’m pretty sure that is correct.
I don’t remember how steeply it falls after that.

ellegee- I took June and I didn’t really find the ‘same’ questions. However, they were pretty much based on the same theory and some questions were ‘similar’. This is Subj test chem you’re talking about, they don’t really have a wide variety to choose from. For example, look at the Oct 2008 Chem thread I chanced upon. It has a few questions from today’s test. So yes, they do repeat questions but they jumble them up with other questions.

Aniruddh, in the link you’ve provided, the test has only 80 questions so they have scored out of that. So if the test had 85 questions in the first place, I presume an 82/83 would be the last cutoff for 800?

I would really appreciate it if someone owning the Collegeboard book would look it up tell us all.

I believe you can miss up to -5 raw and still get 800.

You believe? Are you saying that after looking at the official test curves?

In the Official Guide it stands:

Raw Score Scaled Score
85 - 800
84 800
83 800
82 800
81 790
80 790

So up to -3 or 4 ommited would still land you an 800

Thank you for that DemolitX :)

I’m off 800 >< got 2 wrong already . . .

The power went off in our room and all of us had to be dismissed -.-

^ What, really? There’s this one question I’m dying to discuss, is the embargo lifted?
Anybody from Cali here who can tell us if the test is over?
