November 2012 SAT Math Level II Discussion

have you used n=4? Ola,

yeah, 3500 x (1.054)^4… but Probably wrong… Im really bad at compound problem :P

The parabola one was the one with
something like f(x)=(x-2)^2+2 or something.
Moved two units to the right.

The one with the prime number thing 2p + 1 was 19, correct?

Yes. 19.

There was one that was like -3x+12=y

@Iris, was that the one where y had to be twice as big as x?

What was the phone one?

I’m not sure how order affects it.

@Vergil,

I don’t think so.

For the phone,

I just multiplied the two together.

1/3 for something and 2/3 for local.

2/9

Yeah checked barons, I dont think order affects the value.

yeah i did 1/3 times 2/3 too
thought thats what barrons did -.- haha

I was pretty sure it was 2/9 because it was two independent events happening together. Order didn’t affect it.

It’s kind of like when you flip a coin. You have a 1/2 shot of getting a tails. For getting 2 tails, it’s 1/2 * 1/2 = 1/4.

However, it also seemed really easy for being the 2nd to last q.

So I put (6/4) x (5/3) = 2.5

6/4 = 3/2. Multiply 3/2 and 5/3 and the 3s cross out to get EXACTLY 2.5

Thoughts?

The answer for the strange cross/triangle one was 100% 3.

One with the sine graph?

I just found the maximum and the first root after the origin xD.
And multiplied maximum’s y * first room after origin’s x *1/2

Compound interest: 3500 * 1.013^4. Guys, don’t mislead people!

The probability of the phone call is definitely 4/9:

1-P(both local)-P(both long distance) =1-(1/3)^2-(2/3)^2=4/9

Yeah. We got that sorted out. xD

Does anyone remember when you had to find the slop of the line through M and the Origin and it was like -1 or something?

What did everyone get for the f(x) = a(x+b)(x+c)(x+d)?

This was a rehash of the November 2010 test, so you can check here for some of the other answers.

I hate how Collegeboard does that. It happened with the October Physics test as well.
