November Audition

First off, I hope all our CCU friends are safe and secure during this crazy Hurricane Irene scare! Sounds like maybe it turned out to be not a severe as feared at first but in any case we’ll be hoping to hear that everyone’s fine!

I have a couple of questions about auditions, a couple of which are specific to the November 12 date.

First, since that’s a Saturday, I’m wondering if the normal business offices (Admissions, Financial Aid, etc) will be open so that we can meet with those counselors, or would we have to come in the day before in order to do that?

Second, does anyone have a particular recommendation for hotels/inns that they like? (Hoping some of you parents of current students might chime in on this one!)

Third, for those of you who’ve come from a great distance, how feasible would it be to fly into say, Charleston and drive from there? I know it’s a couple of hours’ drive, but it’s substantially cheaper, and since we will be renting a car anyway, I wondered if it might not be a better option?

And last, with Irene on our minds, I know hurricane season lasts through November. Has there ever actually BEEN a Hurricane in November in SC? It would be awful to book all the travel, only to have it all get canceled!

Thanks for any and all replies!

tracyvp - I can happily report that all is well at CCU! There was wind and rain last night and some scattered power outages but nothing like it could have been.

I have flown into Charleston and it is a good option. The drive is about 2 1/2 hours. Next month I am flying into Charlotte which is about 3 1/2 hours but well worth the drive for the cost savings for me from Texas.

The most popular hotel with the theatre parents seems to be the Hampton Inn on 501. Also the Staybridge Suites by the old Freestyle Music Park is a nice option as well. I admit I try and stay at the beach because why the heck not, but it is a bit more of a drive to CCU although not that bad in November

I love the on campus audition day at CCU. So much energy and excitement! Have a great time.

For flights always check Wilmington, NC (85 minutes from airport to campus) and Florence, SC (even less time.) The Charleston airport is 2 hours from campus. The first two mentioned almost always are significantly cheaper tickets. I normally fly out of Florence.

No, the offices are not open on Saturday. In the past we have asked an admissions counselor to come to the event, but found that parents and students rarely had questions. So, we took the time and made the master classes longer. If you would like to meet with those folks, you’ll need to come on Friday.

If you have any other questions please feel free to contact our office or post here. There is a wealth of information and many questions we can’t answer (such as best hotels!)

Wow! Ken, thanks! It is about $40-60 cheaper to fly into FLO and it’s closer! Almost pays for our hotel or rental car! Woo hoo!

I think you will be safe from the Hurricanes in November! I have never heard of one during that time in MB, and Irene blew right over us with only one night of heavy storms and then some crazy winds the next day. A few places lost electricity, but campus itself was totally prepared and safe. None of us felt worried at all since we had CCU Alerts an things like that to keep us updated!

I will be very excited to meet you at the November auditions! If you or your D or anyone else who reads this has any questions, feel free to PM me or post them.

The November audition date is right around the corner! Sending break a leg wishes to anyone who will be auditioning. I will be there that weekend, as will sjstxmom, so if anyone is interested in meeting up and getting some parent perspective just let us know!

Thought I would post a link to the amazing production photos for “Anything Goes.” Hope all of those auditioining next week have a chance to see it!

Can’t wait to see Anything Goes and hope to have the opportunity to meet both students and their parents who are in town for auditions. BAL wishes to anyone auditioning and I think we are all in for a treat with the show!

Can’t wait to finally put some faces to names and meet all of the wonderful CCU parents and students (And faculty, too!)

@austinmtmom and sjstxmom…really missed seeing you guys at Anything Goes this past weekend, but you are both in for a TREAT! Great show…SO.MUCH.TALENT up on that stage (and behind the scenes too)! and at tracyvp…BAL at your audition… I believe my D will be checking you guys in bright and early!!
I just wanted to say what a lovely day we had last weekend at my son’s audition. We thoroughly enjoyed “Anything Goes” and were quite impressed. Congratulations to all those involved.

I just want to second Georgia’s sentiments. We had SUCH a lovely day, capped off by a spectacular show! For those still to audition, the day went EXACTLY as outlined in this post from last year: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/12074944-post11.html</a>

It was so nice to know what to expect!

Hi, I auditioned with Coastal in Nov. My family will be travelling over the holidays – but I don’t want to leave until the letter has arrived. Can you tell me when Coastal is planning on sending out their letters? Thanks.

To my knowledge all but one person has been notified of the decisions made. And I’m hoping to reach that person today. If somehow we made a mistake, and you haven’t heard, please PM me. I’ll check back often.

I apologize for any delay.
