November invited event for applicants

DD heard about some event for applicants that select people are receiving applications to. Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks!

I meant receiving invitations to…

More info would be helpful to answer this.

Most likely this is a local Brown admissions rep event. (usually at night, usually at just one place per region, often a local private school). These are open to anyone in the community who is interested in Brown (and, as I advise students in our area, anyone who wants to get a better than average look at the “real scoop” on applying to select schools. The admissions officer who comes to our area is superb!). The “invitations” are sent to high school college admit counsellors to spread the word (and sorry to say, they may or may not be good at that) and to students that have already contacted Brown in some way to express interest. (ie they have a students address!).
There are some events other than this, (recruited athletes, I think something for female engineering students at Brown but I don’t think they are directly part of the admissions office.)

Thanks. We did sign up for a local event that is being done in conjunction with Rice, University of Chicago, Columbia. But based on what DD said, the thing she heard about was held at Brown similar to Amherst Open House Diversity Weekend. Our guidance counselor barely knows what the Common App is. She literally said she didn’t know how the teacher recommendations work with Common App. None of the teachers at our school knew that the ACt was being given this weekend and the ones we asked on parents night had never heard of SAT subject tests. Everyone here goes to University of Wisconsin schools. That’s why were doing all of our research on here!

You might want to find out if there is a nearby prep school etc that has a good college guidance counselling program, and see if your daughter can get connected with that in some way for info. My kids’ school has an excellent on line info board that they make available to anyone who knows about it, not just the students at that school. (has tips about the process, calendars of tests etc.) Also often the college reps will be coming to a school like that in the eves. open to the community.

Thanks, great idea!
