Now that it's March 2012

1.My essays portrayed a clear passion for Brown, I had a wonderful interview and I have great academic stats.
2. A Kenyan was already accepted under ED, I applied for full aid,My Math level 2 score:(
3. Cornell and dartmouth.
4. The valedictorian in my school:( …Im ranked 5th out of 220.
5. Its a threeway coin toss between Brown, Williams and Dartmouth.
6. 10 kids get into ivy on average from my school but I dnt know any who got into brown.

near perfect sat score, valedictorian, solid ecs, good recs. special letter from very high up alum in alumni admission program thing who knows the dean. but who knows with that.

white, all around, wealthy area with a ton of applicants
3.deferred harvard ea, dartmouth (likely), yale, princeton, wharton

a whole bunch i think

up there

average ivy success. kids get in when they deserve it.

@transatlantique: great song selection! Beirut is one of my favorites and I included the song Elephant Gun on my “happiness” playlist which will certainly be played on March 29th either in celebration or to cheer me up.

Really!? That’s so awesome! I have met very few people who like Beirut haha, but it’s such a great band, by far my favorite. I’ve been to two of their concerts, and they’re great live too. It’s great to meet another fan!

test scores + gpa + interview

maybe essays? i liked them but maybe they won’t…

i applied to a lot of the ivies.

a lot. it seems like brown is THE ivy of choice at my school this year :(.

yepp it is my top choice  it’s tied with yale and (kind of) columbia.

dunno, it ranges. last year two people got accepted, neither went though.

got both emails. i dont think they mean anything though. i got the second email in the second wave and i remember thinking they meant something (just cuz i didnt get one) but once i got one i was like “i was ridiculous”

good life by one republic ;)

Test scores are in top 25% for Brown, GPA is good, interview went well, and I have a bunch of other stuff in the extracurricular department as well as a few distinctive academic awards. Art portfolio and such…

International applying for almost full aid. Expecting to pay around 5k each year  Also, I’m a deferred ED applicant.

Brown and Princeton.

Just one other person, but that’s because I’m from a third world country.

Brown’s my second after Princeton.

I know just one other person from my country at Brown right now, and he got in from a United World College, so none.

Got the email, didn’t think it was a big deal. Got sort of excited by the second one but it wasn’t specific in any way so it didn’t last.

I’ll hear from Brown and Princeton around the same time so this depends on both decisions. However, I’ll probably be too psyched to play anything.

Question 9. If, god forbid, you get rejected, how will you handle it?

I know that it’ll be hard for me, so I’ve sort of started cutting ties with Brown by reminding myself that I’ll do just as well, if not better, in any other college as long as I have the will. Besides, the admission process is WAYYY too subjective to actually expect something; our job is to wait, see and go with the flow.

Please don’t hate me for asking this question. I just feel that reading the answers to this question will help ease the nervousness of those that dread a rejection and will help them get by if they… you know. Thanks :)

Essays, Rank, URM

ECs are comparatively weak

I applied to Harvard, Yale, Brown, Dartmouth and UPenn

I know two girls who applied ED (One got in, one was rejected)

Its a toss up between Brown and UPenn but I love some other schools too (Duke!)

I don’t think anyone ever has

That newsletter is what everyones freaking out about? lol!

AAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH! I have SUCH Senioritis. If I get into Brown, I’ll know I need to continue to apply myself, but if I don’t…and don’t get into either of my other two reach-like schools, it’s going to be PAINFUL to go to school.

I’m not looking forward to everyone else who applied to Brown in my school asking if I got in, and then when they learn that I did not get in, but they did… awkward

Not one person at my school knows I’ve applied to any reaches–just my match/safety, state school and UCs. It’s awesome.

^
Same here. Only my counselor knows.
There’s this one kid who applied to 5 reach schools I applied to, and he talks about them in class everday, so everyone knows where he applied. He talks to me about those schools, and just say, “Oh! That’s a good school!” When he asks me where I applied, I just mention the state school. haha

Haha, me too! I hate when others know…then they keep asking about it or put me on the spot in some really uncomfortable way.

^ I’ve been in that situation. I’m 90% certain I’ll end up at my match/safety (which i really like, by the way) but its awkward when people say “So you’re going to xxx?” and I’m saying “Well, yeah, I’m 90% sure.” I don’t want to lie…and I am holding out a little hope that I’ll get in to somewhere a little more academic.

I hope that the fact that I’m genuinely enthusiastic about my course might help me along, and my essay wasn’t abysmal.

I’m 22 instead of 18, my secondary school grades were not as fantastic as they should have been for Brown, I’m an international who needs a lot of financial aid, my SAT math score was rather depressing and I’m overall not half as impressive as I should be.

Yes, Harvard and Dartmouth.

None!

To be honest I’m equally excited about Harvard, Dartmouth and Chicago - but that doesn’t mean the idea of Brown doesn’t thrill me. I just get excited rather easily.

I don’t think a single person ever tried.

Oh god, that email. I never expected it to mean anything, I just deleted it instantly because I thought it was rather cruel to send such a thing when most of us won’t get the chance to experience life at Brown - let alone life after Brown.

I’ll be too busy flailing and fainting. The only music to be heard that day will be the sound of me sobbing with gratitude.

Hi guys!

I got a likely letter yesterday! I just wanna say, good luck <3

Snail mail? Where are you located?

Yes snail mail. It’s dated March 8. I live in CT.

Unique interest (slam poetry); Brown’s programs seem to support my goals well - its “open” curriculum, exchange with RISD, literary community, etc

No major awards.

I applied to Princeton and Yale.

Only one. There are likely more, of course.

I don’t have a top choice, but Brown is pretty high up!

Maybe one a year, give or take?

No mysterious e-mail. It’s not a big deal, though.

Listening to myself crying (tears of joy)!

Unique experiences, awesome essay, great reccomendations, and a strange EC (lol)…

Darn you Collegeboard!!!

Just Brown =)

Ummm, none…

Brown is my first choice.

Ummmm, also none… =[

Solid EC, GPA while going through some difficult circumstances. I think I showed genuine interest in school.

My stats are about on average? Even though EC, GPA are solid, it’s nothing outstanding, and no one can guarantee the acceptance to the top schools.

I did. But Brown is my top top choice.

One guy from my school is applying. It didn’t seem like it’s his top choice. He doesn’t know I’m applying there.

YES YES YES YES YES!!! It’ll be my dream come true.

No one. In school’s history, only one girl got accepted to Stanford, and one got accepted to UCLA but didn’t go there.

I didn’t get it.

I think I’ll be too excited to even listen to any music lol.

Good Luck everyone!!
