Now that you're in, how are you going to pay for it?

did anyone check their cal grant, it doesn’t list anything for how much I will be rewarded?

i was planning on becoming a lawyer or getting a phd, but i seriously have no clue how to handle all the loans with my parents not being able to contribute. I mean even after two years, how can you go to law school without getting a job first

finaid is helping me with a little over 17k. the rest is being paid for by work study (3,500) and some loans. not so bad!

Sekhet-- is the $17K all grants and scholarships?

yes, $5350 federal pell grant and $12216 scholarship

What!? What scholarship is that?? lol

it’s called a “Scholarship Recognition Award” given by UCLA…i’m pretty sure it’s given out on a need basis rather than academic merit but idk.

Ohhhhhhhh. I get it now. I was talking about Berkeley. I got awesome aid from UCLA too.

ahh. how is berkeley’s finaid?

Sekhmet-I got WAY more from Cal than UCLA. I got $1800 from UCLA and $10k from Cal. I don’t know what is going on with UCLA, maybe they made a mistake w/ my file or Cal is just being very generous.

that’s a huge difference… i was really worried ucla wasn’t going to give me much but was pleasantly surprised! uci gave me just 1k more than ucla. ucsb still hasn’t posted my award letter.

one word:

DAAAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDYYYYY!!!

Okay, this doesn’t apply to law school (well, maybe it does, I’ve just never seen or read about it) but for many Ph.D programs:

Just work your ass off as an undergrad. If you are a very attractive candidate you can get most to all of your graduate costs covered. I’m not sure exactly how that works; the condition usually is you are working at/for/with the universe while preparing your dissertation.

But, again, don’t worry about the debt too much. Eventually, you’ll see the “fruits of your labor”. Apparently, the President and First Lady only paid off their debts four years ago when he made money off his book. And they attended Harvard Law School. =o

I meant the above for therealist.

if i was younger, i would tell myself to work to become an engineer or a doctor

if i was younger i would tell myself to stop spending all my money on weed

girls smoke weed?

is there a get rich quick major out there? i mean all this money we put into our college degrees just to stay in the work force for what 10-20 years until we finally can say we paid off our college debt

We need to socialize education.

^No we dont.

@sopheee and therealist(i think): Law schools offer very generous amounts of FinAid. just, most of it is merit based. lower ranked law schools try to pull top students away from T14 schools to improve their rankings.

example: My cousin received a full ride to Georgetown law based on his LSAT score and GPA and our families have been pretty successful in the financial department.
