So, I've wanted to be a lawyer since I was like 6 years old. I'm entering my freshman year at my large state school this fall.
Any advice? Anything you'd like to tell me that you wish someone had told you before entering?

I know that I screwed up with undergrad admissions (didn't get into my reaches). I'm just going to explicitly ask... how much is law schools admissions cold, hard numbers (GPA, LSAT) and how much is it EC's, internships? If possible, please compare it to undergrad admissions.

I've bought my LSAT books and I've started to crack into them. What else should I do to prepare? I know I'll be doing Mock Trial and Debate, 'cause that's what I love to do, and I did it throughout HS. In HS, I also interned at a state law firm for 2 years. Are there other EC's or internships that are favorable?

What can I do to get on the right track? Please share your thoughts, regrets, "I wish I had done x"

Lsat and the gpa works out to be around 90% of their decisions. So my advice is to get a perfect gpa or get onto a very easy major and pump those marks up…

My daughter is at a T14 school after teaching first grade for 2 years. She would say that the best thing she did to get herself into a good law school was intensive LSAT prep via a classroom course. It was a miserable time for her because she was teaching full-time when she attended the class (2 or 3 times weekly) and was taking another course in teaching methods, but her results were excellent. She had gone the self-prep route several years earlier, and was not pleased with her initial score.

The next most helpful thing she did was pile up an excellent GPA. It was good enough for summa at her school, though not even a 3.9, let alone a 4.0. This did not keep her from being accepted at several T14 schools with merit offers. But it was below median at some of the schools where she was accepted.

Thanks so much for the advice! I wasn’t prepared for high school (in terms of college admissions), but I’m learning from my errors, and I’m determined to go into college prepared for law school admissions.

Should I focus less on EC’s then? I was planning on doing club lacrosse, Debate, and Mock Trial, as well as maybe student newspaper. But reading all these forums, I guess law school looks more at raw #'s than undergrad schools do, so I think I’ll cut lax and student paper.

LSAT, here I come!

Also, does it matter what major I do? I’m majoring in Econ, and it’s a hard major, so I’m scared I won’t get a 4.0. Would it be frowned upon if I chose an easier major? Or should I keep the Econ major? Just in case I need a job?
