now what?

I just found out my status says admitted and to wait for a packet in the mail. Can I sign up for housing now or should I wait for the packet?

First, congratulations! It takes a lot of pressure off in your senior year to have a good acceptance already in hand.

Second, it will only take a week or two to receive your packet. In it, you will find info regarding housing that explains the process. In case you don't know already, you don't get to request a specific dorm, but rather one of the neighborhoods. The booklet will explain all that. Also, I think their might be an assigned password included in the packet that you will need. My memory is a little fuzzy on this. It's been 2 years since my son went through the process.

You could use the time until you receive the packet to check out IU's Housing website and get a feel for which neighborhood would be the best for you. Applying for housing in October is not going to put you at a disadvantage, so don't worry about waiting a couple weeks to apply.

thanks for the info, im a direct admit at kelley so I really want to be in the northwest neighborhood in a academic community, hopefully in collins

Since housing doesn't get assigned until after May 1st (after everyone has sent in their final college acceptances), I'd say you have a lot of time to spare. Generally, neighborhoods are assigned in order of who turns in their housing applications first. So if you get yours in fairly soon, I'm sure you will get whichever neighborhood you want.

Congratulations on your acceptance to IU-B.

Enjoy your senior year in high school and all your college years in Bloomington.

Congrats on the speedy acceptance. My daughter had not even applied at this point last year.

It did take a while to get the packet; I was close to calling IU, wondering where it was, and then it came. If I remember correctly the Kelley acceptance letter came before the big packet.

We held off on housing because she was unsure of what school she was going to attend and IU had the largest deposit (and the least amount back). I think the request and deposit was sent in early to mid March. She requested northwest and did not get it.

So I think you are way ahead of the game.

Just as an FYI, I'm not sure Collins is the place for a business major.

Not sure if this matters to you, but the parking permits are granted based on the date of your housing deposit. So my son got a D5 permit for Teter as a Freshman because he sent his deposit in last October. So if you plan to drive and want to park next to your dorm best to get the deposit in early.

I don't plan to park but thanks for all the responses. Ghostfire13, what is the best place for a bus major? I want collins b/c it seems the nicest and also, they mention suites in addition to single and double rooms, I'm thinking single if they don't match people by similar interests but does anyone know any info about suites?

I'm no expert, but I think that Collins is considered the "hippie" dorm. So I just assumed that the vibe would not be conducive to a business major.
