You definitely have a chance, due to your background.

Is is only because of my background (and not my activities)???

I think you have a good chance, because everything you listed here is really impressive. Would it be possible for you to retake the SAT this month or try the ACT in February to get a higher score? Though I think you have a good shot already, getting a higher score would improve your chances, because the international competition is fierce. I don’t know much about the TOEFL, so I can’t speak for that.

Can’t take anymore tests… :(

It’s hard to judge your achievements, because of the somewhat vague way you’ve worded some of them. Your SAT scores are low for top US schools.

^He’s noted that he was born and brought up in slums. Do you really believe he’s gonna have high SAT scores? It’s not an insult to him, but I daresay Harvard won’t bother much about his scores.

He claims to be taking a bunch of difficult, college-level courses, and to have a top class rank. And I still say that the achievements are impossible to judge. “Submitted” a paper, for example.

Hunt - I know English is a sort of small problem of mine, but if you see my scores other than English you’ll notice that I tried my best to perform well at academics.

I used vague words for Anonymity.

Well, I would say that if your extracurricular achievements show very impressive leadership and other attributes, you have a chance at top schools. If they don’t, then I think your scores will make it extremely difficult for you. It’s tough for internationals in general.

There are many internationals who apply to Harvard from deeply impoverished backgrounds who have 2300+ SAT scores.

I just applied to top schools assuming its a lottery game. If I am admitted, I will celebrate. If I am denied, I have a strong back-up in my own country. So its a WIN-WIN situation.

Silverturtle - I really appreciate those guys who scored beyond 2300. I tried, but couldn’t. Can’t do anything now.

For a 100 in iBT, you got a award?
Why? When? Where?

You definitely do have a chance. There was an international applicant with 1800 on the SAT accepted last year. However, mentioning an award for a score of 100 on the TOEFL is bs. It makes me doubt your other listed achievements.

Got this from ETS:

Congratulations, you’re a
TOEFL® Star Performer!

Gold Level – a score of 25 per test section and 110 total
Silver Level – a score of 22 per test section and 100 total
Bronze Level – a score of 21 per test section and 90 total

What the !
I scored 117…
Lost 2 marks in the listening section and 1 in writing… No award for me …

Contact ETS… I took it last Dec and got the award some three to four months later…

I don’t understand why would anyone want such an award or desire to mention it on their application; the score speaks for itself and it’s very easy to get a 100, let alone a 90.

Sounds like bs to me.

Certificate of Improvement Award?? What?
