NPB? What is it?

I just got admitted into the Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior major, and realized that I actually have no idea what it is. Could someone who’s in the major tell me whats what, i.e. how it differs from bio (and why it seems to be paired with exbio). any information would be helpful!

Neurons, body functions, how they affect one’s actions.

That’s my guess, haha.

Here is the website to your major:

[UC Davis :: Academics](<a href=“Majors | UC Davis”>Majors | UC Davis)

It should have everything you need to know.

I’ve heard it’s tough but I’ve got 2 friends in it and they seem to be enjoying it so far. Good luck.

bump! honestly, any information is good!

I got admitted into that major too for Fall 2009! lol, and I also live in Davis…

I guess I don’t really understand what it’s about, but it sure sounded interesting when I applied…

How does someone apply to a major without knowing what you’re actually getting into? Do people just hear from someone “this is the new hotness in high-dollar degrees” and think “hey, I’ll do that”?

NPB is basically courses in neuroscience (im currently taking comparative neuroanatomy) from basic to advanced and physiology (anatomy…body functions) and behavior is the few psychology courses required for your degree.

this does sound like an interesting major. I’m thinking about switching into it from managerial econ, which may seem weird, because i’m not planning to be premed, but i wanna major in it anyways just for fun, and then go to grad school for something business related. besides i think they’ll be more impressed with a hard science major than a business major anyways

NPB is most definitely one of the more interesting science majors at davis (I’m NPB) and also one of the most difficult. It’s a popular for pre-meds and pre-PT and all that other stuff. But its definitely good stuffff.

yea i was accepted to that major too and i just picked it because i wanted something science related

hm. i was planning on switching into that major. i applied as undeclared social sciences. think i wud be able to switch into that major after freshman year? is it impacted?

you can switch into it afterwards. im not 100% on whether or not you can freshman year, but I know you cannot first quarter.

if anything, you can still take the pre-reqs for the major anyways

I have a few friends who are an NPB major… it’s definitely hard but they say it’s also really interesting. NPB101 is one of the hardest courses to take, too. I’ve heard so many horror stories about it… so I’m kind of scared cause I’m taking it in the fall. :(

What are some of the horror stories you heard about NPB 101 (Systemic Physiology)?

Like it’s ridiculously hard. Even some of my smartest and really hard working friends tell me it’s hard.

It probably depends on your professor and the curves for the midterms too. But I’m not taking any chances… so I’m only taking NPB101, an upper div psychology class, and NUT10 (which is supposed to be an easy A!) in the fall to make sure I have enough time to study for NPB101.

NPB101 is also a five day, one hour a day, class… so I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of reading to keep up on.

Beside it being difficult, I’ve heard that it’s also really interesting… so it could go both ways. :)

^Kwidine

Do you plan to take the lab associated with NPB 101?

Yup, but I think I’m planning to take that next next fall, which will be my last quarter in Davis (hopefully). :x
