No job, savings about gone, two kids in college and the youngest only applied to OOS schools from California. What's wrong with that picture??

I guess the youngest applied to college while he had a good job. I see that happen all of the time. We always threw in a financial safety for our kids. Each of them applied to at least one state school. But not everyone does this.

It scares me to read these things because we are kind of stuck with a big house in a lousy market. We should have sold a couple of years ago and hesitated to do so. Now the market is not moving. If we had been quicker on the uptake, we would be in much better financial shape right now. We have one that is going to a private college right now and I know my next one will likely want to do the same. If H does not continue to make what he is, we won’t be able to afford it unless the housing market changes.

Barrons, let us have one day of joy about college acceptances before the reality of paying for it hits us like a ton of bricks! :)

They don’t sound as distraught about it as I would be. Perhaps they have a gigantic retirement fund. (They said in the piece that if he doesn’t find a job by the fall they would “start dipping into” that fund.)
