I am currently a high school senior. My GPA is around a 3.6. My SATs aren't great: 1950/2400: 600 Math, 680 Reading, 690 Writing on the SAT. My class rank is 6% out of a class of around 910. I have 2 uncles, a father, and a grandfather that were in the Navy. I have a lot of community service hours, I'm heavily involved with my school's music program, I have a lot of work experience and have almost constantly held a job for my four years in high school. My jobs required me to open/lock up and maintain a school building as well as an administrative building in my school district. I am involved with the Marine Fitness team at my school and I am also in FLBA and have qualified for states this year. I am going to major in computer science. I had my interview in october and the officer said it went really well and I should be a competitive candidate (he also gave me a nice Navy jogging outfit). I was just wondering if there was anyone that was in the NROTC program or had knowledge of the program who could tell me what my chances are of receiving the scholarship and when i will hear back since I am going crazyyy waiting and checking the website everyday waiting to see a decision :(

Good Luck.

did you get your application in late? I believe there are a couple boards during different points of the year (starting in the fall) that meet to give scholarships, so if you got your app in late you’ll be at a disadvantage. Also, did you put down a technical or engineering major? All these are factors, along with the simple number of scholarships available to applicants which fluctuate from year to year. I think you are a strong candidate based on your post, but nothing is guaranteed. I applied out of high school but did not get the scholarship, and started NROTC as a college programmer and got an ROTC scholarship in freshman year (they also backpaid me for a term of tuition). PM me if you have any other questions and good luck.

Your major is key. 85% of NROTC scholarships now have to go to engineering or technical majors.

yea I am going to major in computer science and I completed my application in like october or november i cant remember.

My friend sent his app in 3 months ago and it has yet to go through to the state recruiter. He applied for engineering at penn state and got in, but hasn’t heard back from the recruiter. He’s called almost every day. Any ideas?

Byuan09, I think your friend is out of luck. The review boards for this may have already completed. Even starting the process 3 months ago is very late. It really needed to start last August in order to maximize chances. Without the interview the app is not complete and is not reviewed.

Your friend should have taken initiative and been constantly following up. That is what future officers are expected to do.
