Thursday I start my time at Aggieland! Can I exempt the TSI testing based on the standards below with a 28 composite, 25 english, and a 21 on math? I sent ACT scores with application so they should have on file, correct? Do I qualify for exemption? Also, do I only need to go to the mandatory seminars or all the other things as well...ie Aggie Insights, CSI Aggieland. Thanks!

The student must first achieve a minimum composite score of 23 before partial scores of at least 19 are allowed for the English and/or Math tests. If the minimum composite score of 23 is not first met, then partial scores are not allowed even if those individual scores exceed the score of 19. A student must attend college within five years from the date of the test in order to use the scores for an exemption.

Based on a reading of the TSI page, and not any expert knowledge, it appears you qualify for an exemption. However, please note what it says on the bottom of that same page: “If you think you meet one of these exemptions please verify that Texas A&M has this information. Do not assume that the information is on file.” That’s actually pretty good advice for just about everything at a large public instution.

Obviously, you do need to go to the mandatory activities. Unless things have changed in the last couple of years, the rest of the time there are more activities scheduled than any one person can possibly attend. So pick the activites you think you would benefit you the most. But do take maximum advantage of the available activities. Texas A&M is a unique institution and the more you know about it, the more likely you are to enjoy your time there.
