NSHSS a real organization?

My daughter recvd a solicitation in the mail to join - for a fee- an organization called Nat'l Society of High School Scholars?

We wanted to know if it a real organization.

scam 10 char

It is 'real.' However, it is worthless. You will give real money for a real certificate from a real organization, but it is completely worthless. Basically a scam.

and, when a college, graduate or undergraduate, sees this line in the list of honors in an application, would that college just laugh and say, 'pathetic' 'waste of money'?

Ya, pretty much.

so not every 'honor' is the same. I naively thought that virtually any honor is a good one to list - after all, the kid worked hard. However, If an honor is completely 'made up', I can see how it can be not just meaningless, but possibly damaging to the applicant's credibility.

Just don't pay for it.

If you have lots of honors/awards, don't list it. You can still say Inducted into _______ without paying the fee if you really need a honor/award to put down.

theoc89, I like how you think. good tip.
