national student leadership conference and national young leaders conference...are these things any good? NYLC says something like, "u've been chosen to represent New Jersey and only 1% of the high school students get this chance..." blah blah blah...

umm no they wont help with college.

It isn't a scam in the sense that they take your money and disconnect the phone, but the program isn't worth anything. It only shows colleges that you have enough money to shell out for a program here and there.

yeah, that's what I think too! I have been nominated too.....not going to spend that much bucks to attend some conference sorta things!

Yeah, I have gotten the same thing 5 times in the mail. It said that I have been chosen to represent Missouri, and only 1% people our age are selected...
It looks cool, but I can't go because it is so expensive!

Yeah I don't know. I'm also wondering-it does say it's selective, but at the same time it's uber money. I'm trying to convince my parents to shell it out for renting a locker at the beach instead!

Do. Not. Go. It only demonstrates that you have an extra $3000 to toss around. It has no academic value.

Don't worry...I'm not going!

:>)

NYLC is awesome =).

It doesn't just show you have money, you really do learn a lot it's just not a "classroom" atmosphere, it's hands-on.

I hate how everything has to be put on a college application, why not do something because it's interesting, fun, and broadens your perspective.

NYLC was the greatest experience of my life, it really started my passion for politics.

However, if you have no interest in gov't it might be a little worthless.

That's cool that it was a good experience for you. I would love to go..it's just the money.

At least you had a good time. My GC {and former attendees} have told me that the entire program is more for the social atmosphere rather than the educational one, and colleges don't view it as something very important overall.

But the price and lack of fin aid shows colleges that you do have that sort of money to throw around.
