I am thinking of doing the medicine/health one in DC this summer. I mostly want to do it because i am really interested in a possible career in the health field and i want to see what its all about. Plus it will look pretty good on my college app, right? My cousin also did it a few summers ago, and he loved it.

Anyway, does anyone have an experience with this program that you would like to share? If you have never done it before, or you haven't spoken to anyone who has done it, please don't say what you THINK its about. Only share if you have a real experience or know someone with one.

I did nslc last summer in the law and advocacy program. It's a pretty fun program if you don't have anything else to do with your summer, but otherwise, there's not much else. i couldn't tell you what it's like for the medicine program, but i didn't learn anything about law that I didn't know before or couldn't have researched by myself.

And nslc does NOT help you with your college application. at best, nslc will only confirm your passion and interest in medicine/sciences if you've already displayed that interest. what would be better for your app is your doing something unusual/creative/productive over the summer that advances the subjects that you're passionate about. if you want to find out about medicine, i'd recommend finding out about volunteering at your local hospital or getting an intership at a medical lab or some other place.

nslc was very fun at times, we went monument-touring and shopping at georgetown and other places (but again, nothing i couldn't have done by myself), but personally, i didn't think it was worth the 2000 dollars it cost. if your folks can dish out 2000 (although they do have limited scholarships i believe) and you want to spend a semi-educational two weeks in washington dc, then go for it, but DON'T do it if the only reason is that your parents think it's gonna look good for college, because for the most part, it won't.
